Review: Prov 30:4-6, Act 2:21, 4:12I am disheartened by the negative reviews here, they are absolutely dishonest and a bitter antisemetic attack on the true work of HaShem (god). Who is this truth basher below who recommends a book he hasn't read to dispute the work of god, in their blasphemous review from Dec. 10th? They have no wisdom, do not trust them. Summary: A deceptive and dishonest translation.
Review: This title is a dishonest translation in this sense that it tries to "prove" someone's own faith by the way it presents and translates the meaning of the text. A brilliant and modern translation of the Hebrew text of the Old Testament, that is both HONEST, FAITHFUL to the Hebrew text, very easy to read, in a MODERN style, and with the Hebrew text added along the English translation is: Jps Hebrew-English Tanakh: The Traditional Hebrew Text and the New Jps Translation [Jps stands for Jewish Publication Society]; ISBN: 0827606567. For this title that I review here, it seems to have for only goal to show you that Jesus was indeed the Messiah. However, not by telling you WHY he would be the Messiah with some helpful commentaries for instance but by trying to show you the Jewishness of Jesus using Hebrew names for the characters of the New Testament and by trying to lead you to the conclusion that Jesus was indeed the Messiah who was waited at the time Jesus lived. You can see the web pages of the "Jews for Judaism" (found easily with a search engine) to learn more about the practices used by the "Messianic Jews' who use this title as their Bible. You will clearly understand why this translation tries the best it can to put a Jewish touch to the New Testament by reading these web pages I have just mentioned. No need to add a Jewish touch to the New Testament, Jesus was a Jew so nothing to prove on this matter. Even most of Jesus's disciples were Jews too. The main problem resides not on the Jewishness of Jesus but on some other questions that the book clearly raises although indirectly (see the list of books below to get more information). Instead of reading this book, I simply suggest that you read the following titles that will answer some of the questions raised by this book: 1) Jews & Jewish Christianity by David Berger and Michael Wyschograd; ISBN: 0870686755. Thorough. 2) The Real Messiah by Rabbi Aryeh Kaplan (I could not find this book listed at Amazon under the author's name but I found it on the web pages of "the Jews for Judaism") 3) The Jew and the Christian Missionary by Gerald Sigal; ISBN: 0870688863. 4) Faith strengthened by Isaac Troki. This book is out of print. I was told this book is good too but I have not read it myself. You might have the possibility to read it through a borrowing from your library. After reading these books, you will have the elements of information needed to understand why I say that this title is biased. And you will have answered also the questions that this title raises. I would have liked to see, in this book, some good commentaries but that is another area of this book that is lacking. So, here are some good commentaries of the Old Testament in this outstanding series called the "Jps Torah Commentary" from the Jewish Publication Society (= Jps). They follow the Jewish interpretation but they also take into account all the most recent archaeological findings and other sources, and even the Christian sources when it makes sense to do so, not to prove something in favor of one side or another. These commentaries are especially interesting for the Christian reader for this particular reason that they come from Jews and allow him to compare them with what the Christian interpretations of these texts are. You have "Genesis: The Traditional Hebrew Text With the New Jps Translation (the Jps Torah Commentary)" by Nahum M. Sarna (Editor); Jewish Publication Society; ISBN: 0827603266. Same for Exodus, and so on. Then you also have in the same collection: The Prophets and The Writings that complete the set of the books that constitute the Tanakh (see the web pages of the "Jewish Publication Society" found easily using a search engine for the complete listing). Don't bother buying this title that only put Hebrew names to the characters described in the New Testament. That does not give you a better understanding of the Jewish heritage of Jesus and of most of his disciples and of the questions raised by this title. If you really want to better understand the Hebrew (Jewish) heritage of Jesus, read the titles that I have just mentioned above in this review and you will have a better understanding of this Hebrew (Jewish) heritage of Jesus and of the questions that this title raises. Good reading!

Summary: Great Translation for Great Book
Review: I enjoy reading this translation, because of the superior translation by Dr. Stern and also because to me, as Jewish person, it's written in MY language and it has mindset of MY people behind it (as it should):). I can relate to it. It's not a missionasing and it's not written by a man with a purpose to convert (G-d forbid). It's translated by a very intelligent man who is Jewish and has a heart for Truth.

Summary: My favourite book in the world!
Review: I can't imagine better reading than this. The Complete Jewish Bible is very close to my heart. It contains the lifegiving words of my awesome and mighty heavenly father and was transolated in beautiful modern language, incorporating age old Hebrew words, and re-establishing the Jewish roots of the New Testament as well as confirming the wholeness of God's word (Old and New Testaments) by my dearly beloved earthly father, Dr. David Stern. I highly recommend reading this translation, but more important than this, if you yourself are not acquainted with my heavenly father, get to know Him!!! And if you get a chance to meet my earthly dad, all the better for you...

Review: This work is a recent revision to the age-old practice of Christian missionizing to the Jew. Once upon a time it was done openly and honestly, this book does the same thing but with spin equivalent to that of today's politics - both are raw dishonesty. Shameful.

Summary: THIS IS AN AWESOME TANAKH AND HABRIT HADASHA!!!!
Review: This Tanakh has been a GREAT BLESSING to me. It is useful as it puts both the Tanakh and the HaBrit HaDasha (New Covenanat) into one volume. I have a Hebrew bible, and this one makes it able for me to share the ideas of Hebrew in modern, good English with others. It also allows me to show my friends and family among others that Yeshua is the Messiah as shown in the Tankh and belief in him does not compromise one's standing in The Jewish world. I reccommend this book highly! THis is an Awesome version of the Holy Scriptures!

Review: I consider this a valuable tool to help anyone understand the foundation for all that we believe about the new testament. The Jewish phrasing helps to clarify things that can only be accuratly explained with a knowledge of Jewish tradition and history. I reccomend this bible for all people who desire to know Jesus better.

Summary: This is the best translation of the Scriptures i've read!
Review: The Complete Jewish Bible undoubtedly is the best translation i've ever read! I've studied Hebrew and Greek, and believe that Stern gives fresh insights to the true, lost Jewishness of the Gospel! His insights are unique, and picks up the gap of the Jewishness of the Gospel, where even the best of the Christian translations fail at this! He offers both Hebrew/English, English/Hebrew glosseries at the back of the Bible, so someone unfamiliar with Hebrew can read the Bible, and learn Hebrew vocabulary at the same time. The translation is in enjoyable modern English, but there are inserted Hebrew words throughout the text This is a great devotional Bible, and I would definately say that if the NIV and KJV are considered as Authoritative, then this Bible, surely ought to be! The CJB corrects anti-Jewish translational errors which are in the KJV. This Bible shows clearly how Yeshua is the promised Jewish Moshaich. My mother is a fairly new Jewish believer in Yeshua Ha Moshiach, and this translation has inspired her faith unlike the NASB she had before! From the CJB, every Jewish person ought to be able to see that Yeshua is in harmony with the Tanakh("Old Testament"). Thus, this is a great witnessing tool! I firmly believe that the Ruach Ha Kodesh("The Holy Spirit)",has inspired Mr. Stern to make this translation! Most Messianic Jews use this translation!
