Rating: Summary: Countdown to disappointment Review: This book is almost entirely written to provide "examples" of how the 'Bible code' predicted events that have occurred. Each of those predictions has a graphic 'showing' how it is portrayed in the Bible. The graphs are all in ancient Hebrew and nothing is really explained. This appears to me to be a case of a false prophet... the author is proud that he isn't religious and doesn't believe in God, but he does beleive that somehow "in code" the Bible warns us of what is to come. If you want to know what is to come, trying reading the Bible and having faith in the one true God! If you still want to waste your money on this book, I'll sell my copy CHEAP!
Rating: Summary: The Big Hoax Review: My neighbor brought me this book believing strongly that if a brilliant mathmatician did this, it must be true. I was skeptical before I picked it up and had my skepticism vindicated on page 30 when Rips (the mathmatician) found his own name in this so-called "bible code"!!!!! I gave the book back to my neighbor right then and there. I didn't need to read anything else. It would behoove people who have been swept up in the mania surrounding this book to check out some websites refuting the book, and there are several. Many brilliant and religious people call the book nonsense. In the words of P.T. Barnum, "there's a sucker born every minute". Let's not forget folks, we have something called FREE WILL, and we can CHOOSE to alter the future. You don't have to be religious to understand that the Bible itself is prophecy, why would God need to "hide" such important messages??????
Rating: Summary: An interesting read for all Review: Whether you believe it or not, there is clearly something in this book. Not all want to believe that such things could be true but in fact they are. I am not saying Drosnin is right however, I believe it to be true. God is a mystery. And this Author doesn't believe in God. That was strange I thought that at person who is secular would write such a book. I, like Arafat, believe in prophecy. The only thing I can say is let's wait and see. We can't change destiny. Again, I say form your own opinion, but don't discount it, because with God, all things are possible.
Rating: Summary: Face Facts, People Review: We don't want to have to march on Washington, write our Congressmen about our foreign policy, or become informed, nor would be caught DEAD supporting world peace, so let's pick on Michael Drosnin, right people??? And we sound so SMART doing it, heck, we don't read the paper, but we're ALL mathematicians now, aren't we!!! Okay, fine, you win. But when you're done burning Dronsnin's books in the street, or whatever else guilty people do to feel better about themselves, answer this: forgetting the Bible Code and Drosnin altogether, what're you gonna do with the fact that your president, maybe the most protected man alive, got a smallpox vaccine? Whya think that might be? Howya gonna keep eating potato chips when the government is telling you daily that if you live in a major city, the question is WHEN, not IF, you will face another terrorist attack? How many times does CNN have to say that weapons of mass destruction are already in the hands of terrorists before you say, HMMM, MAYBE THERE'S SOMETHING TO THIS ANNIHILATION THING??? Drosnin has his name and reputation out there, espousing a theory that I am the first to admit, is hard to digest. Criticize the theory, but I defy anyone to deny the conclusions. Meanwhile, what are YOU doing to help stop hatred and killing? Uh-huh, I thought so. Five stars, Mister Drosnin. Keep on keepin' on.
Rating: Summary: Honestly....... Review: Is this bloke fair dinkum or what? I have never read such utter rubbish in my life! And just a small question for the author... can you make predictions on things BEFORE they happen? You have supposedly "forseen" the end of the world via nuclear/atomic destruction, so, if you are so confident, I am willing to give you odds of 100 to 1 that NONE of your predictions take place.... contact me if you are game!
Rating: Summary: A radical leap away from its purpose Review: Drosnin repeatedly claims that he isn't "a believer" in God, but knows that there is "something" in the Bible codes. When he violates the first principle the Bible Codes (that it can't be used for prediction), he ends up predicting the "end of the World" (a la Nostradamus) and then looks for evidence that "aliens" planted life on earth in the Dead Sea area. For one who is seriously interested in either the Bible or Bible Codes, this book isn't it. Save your money.
Rating: Summary: Total fiction!!! Review: What a load of garbage, As if God needs to use code to speak to us! I saw Drosnin on TV telling that famous evangelical couple "Jan and Paul" that their names are written in bible code and that God says they will be great leaders in the end time! Give me a break. If you buy this book you help support either a con man or a lunatic.
Rating: Summary: should've done my research! Review: As a Christian, I think this book is, at best, a hokey science-fiction. At worst, it borders on being Satanic. For the non-Christian, it is a book that goes to great detail to "predict" the events of 9/11...of course, after 9/11. Drosnin talks about ancient space travel with alien DNA as the source of human life. With a lot of imagination, this book could be slightly interesting. However, for the Christian, I believe this book is more than just simple science-fiction. Fist, if by chance what Drosnin says is true, there must be a force greater than man at work "encoding" theses codes within the Hebrew text. The author doesn't believe in God, therefore, there is no godly influence to his work, unlike the Bible itself which is "God-breathed". The question is then, what is the real source behind this book? Secondly, anything that focuses man's attention on anything but God as Creator of all life is not of God. Finally, the most obvious indication that this book is not of God, is the "predicted" time when the world will end. The Bible itself says that even Christ did not know when the end would come and warns of those who claim to know. My review of this book is to pass it up!
Rating: Summary: Nobody or nothing can predict the future. Review: Book is interesting and amusing at the same time. People thought the world was going to end on January 1st of 2000. It didn't. Nostrodamus couldn't do it either. Show me REAL proof!!!
Rating: Summary: Very Interesting! Highly Recommended! Review: You either believe it or you don't. But I found the book very interesting and couldn't put it down. I highly recommend it even if you're skeptical. Believing the code isn't the important aspect but simply to consider it and come up with your own conclusion."It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it." --Artistotle
