Summary: A MUST TRANSLATION to understand the meaning of Al-Quran
Review: THE Holy Quran is the perfect code for all walks of life and this translation has explained them clearly and comprehensively in a way I have never known before. All the standards for the correct interpretation of the Holy Quran has been met by Mrs. Amatul Rahman Omer. This translation is in accordance with - a. testimony of the Quran itself, Sunnah or the act/doing of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), Hadith or record of saying of the Prophet of Islam and Arabic lexicons. This translation has helped me brings about spiritual awakening. Use of Paranthesis plays a very important role in this translation. Words within parentheses are either explanations or alternative meaning. Many of the words within parentheses may be used without any parentheses at all, for they are really part and parcel of the text.. May Allah accept this effort of Nooruddin, Mr. & Mrs. Omar who helped us (non-Arabic speaking audience) understand the true meaning of the Holy Quran in a clearer English. I look forward to reading the detailed commentary (Tafsir) by these authors. In short, I will recommend to all who are Muslims or Not, to get this translation and find out the true peaceful religion of Islam, which is so very well explained by the introduction included in this Quran.

Summary: It's a commentary, NOT a translation
Review: The Qur'an is not God's word. However, this particular translation isn't even a translation of the book Muhammad wrote. It is a commentary. The traslators injected so many of their views into the text that it is impossible to seperate the translation from their comments. If you want to read the Qur'an,
read Pickthall or Ali. This one is not true to the original Arabic. No doubt the translators meant well. Instead, they muddied the water.

Summary: A Must Read
Review: The translators have done an exceptional work of "translation" rather than "transliteration". No matter what your background, this is a work that you can pick off the shelf, read, get to the message, get connected and literally enjoy right away. An easy read, yet true to IT's message. A job well done. For those of us who may have different view of some of the meanings, they can refer to the original Arabic text on the same page, but then they may be on their own (for lack of Arabic language knowledge). Additionally, the sections at the beginning of the book and the appendices are great literary works that reflect the quality of the background knowledge that went into this translation.

Summary: Eternal Truth, Universal Religion
Review: This is a wonderful translation of the Quran. The only way to get closer to the original meening is to learn Arabic. I have read several translations, including Yusef Ali (which I love and recommend in addition to this one for a simmilar but more traditional view.) The articles in the begining of the book give a good amount of information to readers, and the glossary is full of Islamic concepts and worth reading through alone. This is also the only translation which to my understanding has been done by a woman. I have the beautiful leather cover with gold letters on the front. It is compact enough to carry with you. Mine has travled with me quite extisevly and has held up better than most of my other books. (I like to read them over and over.)
The meanings are beautifuly written and not abstract, but very specific. The translator chooses logical, well choosen and down to earth words which leave the reader with a good grasp of the philosophy. The index is very complete and provides a good quick referance to anyone wishing to use this text as a comparison for other concepts. If you are a student of Islam, world religion, philosophy, culture, or just interested in what Quran says, this is definately worth having.

Review: This is most likely the 3rd different version I have tried of the koran. I found it to be very user friendly. The words were easy to understand with clear meanings. I quite enjoyed reading about these 'muslim' peoples religion. I am not of islamic origin but I wanted to learn more. I can understand why it is the worlds fastest growing religion.

Summary: Great Transalation.
Review: This is the best transalation that I have ever read for the Holy Quran. The transalation is simple and clear, it does not mimic the 'old world' translation of the Holy Bible. What is also very nice, is that this version has both English and Arabic text, so for those who can read both languages, it makes it very convenient. The Holy Quran is a must read, as we are residing in a time where Islam has come under extreme criticism as a religion of hatred and terrorism. That is not true, but unfortunately there are extremists who do nothing but tarnish the image of the relgion that means 'to surrender'. Reading this book and understanding it are key, as there are those who misinterpret and take things out of context. This is not a religion based on hate and or crime, yet to the contrary it talks much about patience. Patience which is key to many things, yet those who tarnish the good name of Islam seem to have none of it. I would suggest reading this book, if not to change your ideas, then at least to enlighten them. As a born muslim, my only communication with hatred and terrorism, I have only seen on 'television'. Never have I encountered it, nor have I ever read about it in the Holy Quran.

Review: This translation of Qur'an is written in straight forward current english.Unlike Shakesperian style so commonly used in Quranic translations.It is intellectualy palatable and digestable for average reader like myself.Above all it is printed on good quality paper and bound in flexible binding.It is easy to carry in one's coat pocket.As a manuel of every day life.

Summary: Difficult Reading
Review: This translation of the Holy Qur'an is written using words that are often too flowery, making it hard to understand the verses. Also, the author inserts a lot of alternate translations of words in parentheses, making it hard to study a particular verse. In general, I would not recommend this translation to first time readers of the Qur'an. However, if you are already familiar with other English translations, this one may be OK to use as a comparison.

Summary: Best introduction to the Holy Quran
Review: This translation of the Holy Quran is the best I came across.The introduction give us a very clear picture of what is Quran all about and how to understand the Quran. Also how to enter to the world of the divine sayings , Especially For a non muslim this Quran give a good understanding.It also write about the prophet teaching in order to understand the Quran.Lastly it uses the simplest english so that any ordinary person will understand it. It is handy in size.It does not have the long commentery but we will have a clear vision of the Holy Quran.May ALLAH bless the author for his hard work.

Summary: Inaccurate translation
Review: This translation of the Quran, though aesthestically pleasing as far as print goes, is inaccurate in its translation of the original arabic text. In order to be understood correctly, the translator needs to stay as close to the arabic meaning as possible, without adding any extra words... he can leave that to the commentaries. The Holy Quran translated by Yusuf Ali provides a much more accurate translation.
