Summary: if you need a pep talk...
Review: This book was the right thing at the right time for me. As I was deciding to leave insitutional ministry and launch out and plant a church, I picked up Seizing Your Divine Moment. During one of the scariest times of my life, Erwin McManus took scripture and applied it in such a way that I was not only encouraged, but I was energized.

I highly recommend this book to those who are thinking about their lives and wondering "What's next?"...and who might even be a little afraid of the answer.

Summary: More than words
Review: This book would be great even if I knew nothing about McManus' life and ministry. But, after hearing him speak and watching his work, this man literally "practices what he preaches." It is easy to challenge people to do something (which this book does wonderfully), but when the challenger lives out the challenge so boldly, it only makes it that much more powerful. Now, I need to go live it out too!

Summary: A Life of Adventure in Christ
Review: This is a wonderful book for anyone grappling with the complexities and ambiguities of finding God's will for their individual life. Without the undertones of oversimplification often found in books on this topic, McManus delicately and insightfully dicusses many of the difficult areas of the decision making process; "How can I be sure of what God wants me to do?" "Risk Taking & the fear of failure", Facing the inevitability of uncertainty, "The relationship between the 'Vision' and the need for financial provision",etc. McMannus carefully avoids the two frequently visited extremes of 1. Never make a decision without a clear supernatural sign from God & 2. God doesn't care about who you marry or where you work, he's only concerned about your character. One of my favorite qoutes from the book is "When you are passionate about God, you can trust your passions". The Chapter on "Uncetainty" was liberating. In the manner of Aslan, McMannus contends that our life path in Christ is good but not safe. Seizing your Divine Moment shows how to find peace and direction in an untamed adventure with a God whose hope and future for us is good.
This book is beautifully written, highly entertaining, motivational and practical. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT.

Summary: This is an action book.
Review: This is a wonderful book. I have recently started living a little like McManus recommends and it is very risky but worth it. I read this book on vacation and wondered--how can I apply this book now? But I did. I opened my mouth about God and met a pastor who has just opened a rehab center.

McManus draws you into the books and challenges you to live the way he does.

Summary: Erwin makes you think and then challenges you!
Review: Thoughts alone are great, but Erwin gives you a challenge to live your life for God and not hold back. I have heard Erwin speak publically twice. Once at Leadership Network and more recently at Promise Keepers in Phoenix, AZ. They should have let him speak longer and more than once at PK. He was one of the highlights of the whole deal. This would be an excellent book to take on a personal renewal retreat. I love his insight and boldness. A must read for any serious believer. A very must read for any Christian leader.
Thanks Erwin for a great challenge.

Review: To the reader who wrote this:

"...anybody could be so gullible as to accept this gibberish! amazing...and to think ERWIN (who should find some time and do a little research first) is actually making money off you poor souls! oh, the pity. I give it a one, but only because it has print in it."

I would say....what is the fruit of your life in the kingdom? Erwin lives what he preaches, and lives are changed because of it. This book totally changed my focus from sitting back, waiting on God to "find me" to moving out and seeking where God is already at work, and joining in.

Summary: One fabulous book...
Review: While I have Erwin's previous book, I have not read it. But I happened to see this book on the shelf of my local bookstore and thought "Why not". I am very glad I did.

He works through a passage from Samuel and develops for the reader "The Jonathan Factor". He looks at the life of Saul's son Jonathan and he attacked and defeated a band of Philistine soldiers all on his own - and how the actions he took awoke the Israelite Army to fight the battles God had already told them they would win.

He focuses on not missing the divine opportunities that come our way - always be looking. And to not forget that those opportunities require risk, uncertainty, faith, and can mean great impact and influence on others.

I was awakened myself in some areas, encouraged in others and flat out challenged in others.

Read and enjoy...you'll not be sorry

Summary: I hate books. This is however one you need to read
Review: Yes it is true, I hate to read. I am an audible and visual learner, and reading doesn't fit into this for me. I would much rather see the movie then read the book. It is from this context that I review this book.

I picked this book up after seeing Erwin speak at a leadership conference, and it is worth 40 times what I paid for it. Erwin does a masterful job of presenting the topic with humor, poignancy, and deep philosophical insight. Throw in some inspiring, and hilarious stories and you have the makings of a classic. He delves into the realm of following Jesus with the profound but simple thesis: Go until you are told to stop, don't stop until you are told to go. If you want to make an impact for Christ in the world, and through your daily life, pick up this book. No guarantees, but I know God used it in my life. It is well worth the read, especially coming form an avid non-reader.
