Rating: Summary: Must have for reference any christian library Review: The paper back edition and pocket book edition are great for everyday use but this is a must have for the serious student who maintains their own reference library. As with the other editions, this is a must have right next to the Bible. Find out what the Catholic Church REALLY teaches. You do not have to be a Bishop to read or understand this one. The faith explained using todays language and using Scripture, Church documents, writings of the early Fathers, Church Doctors and Saints. The only draw back is the less than spectacular art work for the dust jacket.
Rating: Summary: informative and straight foward on catholic doctrine Review: I found this book to be a very helpful guide in following the path through life, that our Lord has laid out for us. A very valuable reference to clear up any questions on faith that may arise. A Websters type, dictionary of catholicism.
Rating: Summary: Great book! Review: This is a great book! It shows what the Catholic Church really teaches, not the misrepresentations made by anti-Catholics and the extreme liberals. As for the reader who wrote:"This is the book on real catholicsm. It falsely uses scripture to support their beliefs when it comes to the virgin mary, purgatory, the roman church and the infallibility of the pope. This book proves that the roman catholic church is truly an apostate church. If you want proof, just compare it to the bible." I agree; compare it to the Bible. The Bible supports it completely, contrary to what the reviewer wrote. The Catechism, unlike that reviewer, actually supports its views with Scripture. The reviewer, on the other hand, resorts to ad hominem attacks instead of using facts (typical of anti-Catholics). This is a book that all Christians should have! Even Protestants who disagree with Catholic teaching on many things will find it very helpful in explaining the beliefs and morals we hold in common.

Rating: Summary: Scripturally based treasure of the fullness of Christianity! Review: Essential document based upon the teachings of Jesus Christ passed down through the centuries and preserved in their fullness by the Catholic Church. Very readable. Discusses the Apostles' Creed, the Seven Sacraments, Christian Life, Sin and Prayer, especially the Our Father. Addresses problems unique to our modern society.Reflects the Tradition of the Church based SOLIDLY on Sacred Scripture. Contains truths of Jesus Christ which are rejected by our society as a whole, yet which are critical to maintaining Family Life and the life of civilization itself.
Rating: Summary: Every Christian should own this book! Review: Every Christian -- Catholic, Protestant and Orthodox -- should have a copy of this book. It is more than just an excellent reference book. It is a history of the Church, a prayer book and a book on spirituality. When reading about any of the hundreds of topics covered, one gets the impression that a synopsis of the Holy Spirit's workings throughout history is being conveyed to the reader. It is very easy, fun and informative reading. And it flows. Intertwined throughout the text are thousands of quotes and references to Scripture, Council documents and popes' encyclicals, letters and speeches. A topic is covered in totality and supported with a tremendous amount of easy-to-understand references. Each circumstance is very well evidenced and footnoted. (For this reason, I would also recommend the "Companion To The Catechism Of The Catholic Church" which has the complete text referenced in the Catechism.) The Index is exhaustive. A wonderful book for all followers of Jesus to read! Why not buy a bunch of these books and give them away to all your friends that question their faith or yours? I guarantee they will devour the book and come to see what it is we believe as Christians.
