Rating: Summary: Absolute beautiful work of art. Review: A great tool for any 12 Step Recovery Tool Box..
Rating: Summary: Life-saving book Review: All I can say is that I felt so alone and alien to the world before beginning to read this book. Now I realize I am not/was not alone, and there is hope for addicts. We don't want to live that way, but sometimes feel helpless and trapped. This book will help you realize that with God anything is possible, even recovery from hopeless addiction.I recommend this book for any person struggling with any type of addiction in their life. It perfectly relates scripture to recovery in your life today.
Rating: Summary: Well worth the investment Review: I am a regular listener to Steven Arterburn on the radio--and have read several of his books. He frequently gives this Bible outrecommends it to listeners, so I couldn't resist the urge to check it out for myself. The primary reason I purchased it was to read the study helps, as I know that he has some tremendous insights into the recovery process from a biblical perspective. I was not disappointed. I received a bonus though when I began reading the text of the Bible. The New Living Translation is without a doubt one of the most readable (without sacrificing accuracy) translations that I have read. It is like reading one of those good novels that you cannot put down. Within a week of purchasing it, I had read the books of Acts, Romans, Ephesians, I and II Timothy, and am halfway through the book of Matthew. It is that good. One of the problems with older translations (i.e. the KJV) is that you have to mentally translate what is being said into language that you are familiar with. Its like a person who's first language is Spanish, but speaks English fluently as a second language. Unconsciously, they have to filter an English conversation through their natural Spanish proclivity. When they communicate in Spanish, that process is not necessary. That's the way that I found reading the NLT. It freed my mind of a distraction so that I was more free to hear the Holy Spirit. Doing so gave me some insight into one passage in particular that I had never received reading other versions. I would highly recommend this Bible to new believers. I would also recommend it (especially for devotional reading) to seasoned bible students. As has been said in several other reviews, the study aids are helpful to ANY Christian. We are all in recovery. Some of our addictions are just more socially acceptable than others. I give this Bible 5 stars!

Rating: Summary: A Great Bible with LOTS of 12 Step Readings!!! Review: I bought this book in the first edition, and found that once again Tyndale House produced beautiful and helpful books. Tyndale House published my first biography "Francis Schaeffer: The Man and the Message" (now out of print). You can spend a lifetime with "The Life Recovery Bible," and never exhaust it's resources. It is so big, however, that it might be overwhelming for a beginner. Perhaps that is why their "Serenity" book is really a small introduction to the Bible and the 12 Steps. I used "The Life Recovery Bible," as a source of inspiration when I wrote the first edition of "Prayer Steps to Serenity" in 1993 (published by CompCare).
"Prayer Steps to Serenity" is now expanded and revised as "Prayer Steps to Serenity: the Twelve Step Journey" (2004). I wanted to make my book more of a workbook and book that actually teaches you how to pray through each of the 12 Steps and the Serenity Prayer using daily meditations and weekly study questions. Also, I wanted my book to be a Personal Prayer Journal and Personal Study Guide, with a Group Journey Guide for small groups, that had lots of white space for notes. I conduct Serenity Groups in my church, and we still use readings from "Serenity: A Companion For Twelve Step Recovery" and "The Life Recovery Bible" in our meetings. If you like "The Life Recovery Bible," I believe "Prayer Steps to Serenity" is also a book you can use personally, in meetings, or as a Sunday school class textbook. It is available at Amazon.com with ISBN 0595313043. Many free resources and study guides that are keyed to "Prayer Steps to Serenity" are available at the PrayerSteps.org and SerenityGroups.org websites.
Thanks for reading!

Rating: Summary: The Life Recovery Bible Review: I have been involved in a Christian 12 Step Recovery group for over a year. When I finally purchased this bible and began reading the additional information that is included, I was surprised the way the characters and stories are revealed in a truly different light (they weren't perfect!). Many believe we must be perfect for God to love us, this is so far from the truth. This book shows how God made us to love us. It reveals the flaws of people in both the old and new testaments. They have gone through the same things we are still going through today (because afterall, there is nothing new under the sun). God is never surprised by what happens, he knows our days from the first to the last (even every hair on our head). Upon reading this bible, I see how other people dealt with issues, how they responded to God, what pleased God and what didn't. This has really helped me chose which direction to go, even when I make the wrong choice, I know that God will love me anyway. If I continue to follow these steps, seek God when I am weak, praise him daily and truly have a heart for Him, he will say "Well done, thou good and faithful servant!" Oh I wait for the day!

Rating: Summary: Just what I have been looking for. Review: I have been searching for a bible that would cover eveything that I go through as a recoverying addict and that would also explain the bible in detail to me. From what I have seen in reveiwing the sample pages, this has been an answer to my prayer.
Rating: Summary: Words for life Review: I love this Bible. It not only applies to those in recovery, but it applies to all those who are seeking to live a live pleasing to Christ. The commentaries are outstanding. I wish I could order it by the case, to give to those seeking a Christ filled life.
Rating: Summary: A God-Send For Insights Into Life And Healing Review: I started reading bibles in depth 3 years ago, and I have purchased just about every translation and study bible in print. I was looking for God, for healing, for insights into what it really means to be a Christian, how to find release from the bondage of addictions and idolatry of any sort, and how to grow spiritually. I purchased this bible in August 2002. Since then, I have found answers in it that no amount of personal or group bible study using other bibles, Christian radio, professional counseling by therapists or pastors, church attendance, or prayer have given me. Almost every page has foot-notes, devotionals, in-depth comments, which teach about addictions and how to gain freedom, details about the road to recovery, all within a Christ-centered framework using the 12 Alcoholics Anonymous steps. You can look up just about any life-experience topic in the excellently organized index/concordance in the back of the Bible, to focus on passages which help you understand who you are, what you do, why you do it, and ways to gain release from whatever plagues you, and get closer to God in order to gain peace and restoration. I have abandoned all my other bibles in favor of this one. I would urge anyone who needs help in self-control, discipline, overcoming compulsive/obsessive behaviors, to dig into the Life Recovery Bible. You will be blessed abundantly. If you simply want to grow spiritually, and you have no addictions, this bible is also for you. Every day I can look forward to new insights and teachings in this bible, which I can apply immediately to my life. The text is easy to read for such a large Bible, the NLT translation is easy to understand, and the footnotes and other devotionals do not interfere with my enjoyment of every page. There is another Life Recovery Bible in the NIV (New International Version), which in my opinion is not nearly as good as this one.
