Rating: Summary: Traveling Light Review: This book is one that I will read over and over. The 23rd Psalm means so much more to me now as Mr. Lucado takes each verse and leads you through the Psalm.
Rating: Summary: A Great and Easy Read Review: This book is truly amazing. Max Lucado does a brilliant job of breaking down one of the most loved scriptures there is. In fact, it is such a wonderful scripture, I feel many take if for granted and do not look at it peice by peice as Lucado does. I appreciated his easy reading style and became so involved in the book, I ended up reading it over a weekend. I am looking forward to going back and re-reading it and also going through the study guide. I have recommended this book to anyone and everyone as we all have some "luggage" we could leave at the cross. What a great book!
Rating: Summary: read Review: THIS BOOK WAS TERRIBLE!!! IT HAD NOTHING GOOD. I FOUND ITS CONTENTS DISGUSTING. WHERE'S ALL THE STUFF ABOUT JESUS BEING A POLITICIAN. NONE OF THIS IS REAL. IT PERTAINS TO NOTHING OF THE SECRETS: GOD IS MAN BECAUSE HE COMES FROM MEN, GOD IS SPIRIT BECAUSE MEN HAVE THE ANTI-MATTER, GOD IS ALL-KNOWING FATHER BECAUSE HE WAS MADE BY MAN, WHO IS ALL-KNOWING ABOUT HIMSELF. THE BREAD BECOMES BODY AND THE WINE BLOOD BECAUSE THE HUMAN MIND MAKES IT THAT WAY. SPACE, TIME ALTERATION. VORTEXES, BLACK HOLES. IT'S NOT IN HERE (...)
Rating: Summary: Another great in a line of greats Review: This book was the first in a long line of Lucado books that I have read. After close to 3 years of running from God, I turned my life around. This was the first Christian book that I've bought in a long time. The main thing that stuck out to me, besides the comedy, was that Max has a great grip on reality. I've heard a lot of long-winded preachers who think that they know everything and I was just a dumb kid. Max seems to be just a normal guy who understands the word and knows how to come across without making you feel stupid. I feel like I am reading advice from my father. It has only been a month since I read this, and I have already read another title of Max's and started a third. He has really helped me.
Rating: Summary: Got anxiety? Review: This is a must read for those struggling with worry. The author uses personal ancedotes and biblical references that are very useful to let the reader appreciate psalm 23.
Rating: Summary: Great travel tips from a superb Christian communicator. Review: This is one of a few books by Lucado that I have read. I thoroughly enjoy Max's style. Travelling Light doesn't disapoint. Max has a command of the English language superior to most other authors, Christian or not. He is altogether funny, serious, and encouraging as he seeks to inspire believers to a deeper committment to the Lord. I like the way Traveling Light is broken down into bite-size pieces. We all carry one or more of the burdens he describes. He addresses problems that everyone faces and he addresses it in the realistic everyday. I only have one contention with Max and it is the laxidasical way in which he treats issues that are a concern to many evangelical Christians. Specifically he glosses over alcoholism, questionable music, and movie-going. There are some who believe these things have no part in the committed Christian's life. New believers seeking definitive answers on these subjects may be mislead into thinking such vices are okay. On the whole, however, Max Lucado stimulates spiritual thinking, encourages weary travelers to release unwanted luggage, and offers solutions to complex life problems. I commend Max Lucado on another fine work.
Rating: Summary: You can't believe how blessed I was Review: This is the first Max Lucado book (well, book) I've ever read and no words in my venacular can praise his work enough. It has so inspired and blessed me!
Traveling Light is based on the old (and one of the most famous Psalms) Psalm (23) by David the King. Lucado guides the reader with such tenderness, light-heartedness (and I mean it... You won't believe how quirky and witty he can get *Grin*) and insight into the very heart of the Psalm and God, eventually.
I enjoy thoroughly the way Lucado writes about his personal encounters as well as draws experience from others (from his wife to Moses) to illustrate each topical aspect of the Psalm. And it really helps you to see the big picture about vital life lessons such as pride, want and fear.
Apart from that, each topic is supported by reading references and questions that challenge you to probe further until you get a satisfactory answer for yourself! His intuition to human needs is amazing: Lucado is able to ask questions which I have long wanted to ask, and gives answers in his writing.
It's a brilliant book. What more can you ask for if a Psalm barely filling up a third of a page in a typical Bible is turned into sort of a guidebook comprising 220 pages? Truly, God must be in this writing. And if Max ever gets to read this book review, I'd like to thank him... For his modest sharing :o)
Rating: Summary: Profound, yet simple. Review: This was my first Lucado book to read and I now understand why he sells so many books. Traveling Light is based on Psalm 23, surely one of the most well-known passages of the Bible. My grandmother helped my memorize it and recite it every time I stayed at her house and reading the book brought back a swarm of good memories. On top of that, Lucado's writing about and through the passages brought a feeling of peace over me that has been missing for some time. I struggle with carrying my baggage, forgetting that God wants to help. Traveling Light means packing your faith and little else. I plan to read all of Lucado's books by the end of the year based on reading this one. Unfortunately, I did find one obstacle with a theological conflict I have with what Lucado had written. That caused me to give 4 stars instead of 5. Because of my belief on baptism and grace, I worry that someone who hasn't developed a strong faith and understanding of the Word might miss a point I believe to be very important. Saying that, I realize not all Christians (and writers) agree on every topic and that much good can be done by showing the love of God that is brought forth in this book.
Rating: Summary: Great Book! Review: We're using this book in a Promise Keepers group that I attend on Wednesday mornings. I've also used this book in our Sunday School class. We're through Chapter 8 so far. Chapters 4 & 6 have been my favorites. I've enjoyed this book so much that I have purchased extra copies (new and used) to give as presents to other people. The chapters are short and it is an easy read. I would say it is definitely the "quality vs. quantity" approach to writing. This is the first Max Lucado book I have read. I plan to read more because of my experience with this one. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have. God Bless.
Rating: Summary: WARNING: This book is for you. Yes ,YOU! Review: Wow! Lucado does it again. I was just feeling a little weighted down when all of a sudden I was surfing in Amazon.com and read a review about this book "Traveling Light" by Max Lucado. So I decided to look inside the book and turned to the part about a couple getting married and how they felt happy about the idea that their partner would either fix them or release them of their insecurities etc....... I was curious from that point on so I turned to another part of the book were Lucado explains how we always want. He gives reference to a top excutive who tells how he lost everything in his business. The minister replies," Oh I'm sorry to hear that you've lost your faith." "No", replied the man, I haven't lost my faith' "Well, then I'm sad to hear that you've lost your character." "I didn't say that," he corrected. "I still have my character.' "I'm so sorry to hear that you've lost your salvation." "That's not what I said," the man objected. "I haven't lost my salvation." "YOU have your faith, your character, your salvation. Seems to me," The minister observed, "that you've lost none of the things that really matter. These are just a few of the examples Lucado uses to demostrate the meaning of the most beautiful psalm in the Bible and how it applies to our lives now. Lucado's wit and humor make this book an easy read but yet a profound statement is made in every chapter. Today more and more we carry alot of burdens as Lucado states. For instance he covers in his book to name a few, "The Burden of Worry," The Burden of hopelessness," and The Burden of loneliness," how many of us can related to one or more of these. His prose is reassuring and convincing that the solution lives in our faith in the Lord. And we need to give our luggage to God. He will never forsake us. There are lots of examples throughout this book that will help anyone who reads it to better understand how the Lord never forsakes us and we need to give our burdens to him. Please do not pass this one up it is enjoyable to read and yet an eye opener to those of us who felt we needed to carry all the weight. Don't forget to check out Lucado's chapter on "Almost Heaven," it will make your heart swell with delight. God Bless
