Rating: Summary: SIMPLY A MUST READ BOOK !! Review: this book is one of the best books I've ever read. Even though I knew what was going to happen, I read the whole book with a lump in my throat. Miep and the others who endangered thier own lives to help the franks, truly showed love and courage in those terribly dark days ! Miep takes you through a journey of what it was like to live during War times, She sheds light of just how terrifying life must have been. I feel as though I know Miep personally after reading this incredible story. You simply must read it !!
Rating: Summary: Very interesting, extremely informative of that time! Review: This was another account of the woman and her husband who hid the Frank family. It was thorough and informative knowing the other side of the story. Miep, the author, was indeed courageous risking her life to protect friends. Very intense and suspenseful book!
Rating: Summary: Desperation Review: This wonderful book perfectly captures the feeling of desperation and fear that pervaded all German occupied lands. Reading the Diary of Anne Frank, I never cried because Anne herself seemed so resilent, so full of hope. Reading Anne Frank Remembered, I wept at the desperation that these people endured and at the magnificent beauty of Miep Gies and her strength. I cannot recommend this book enough.
Rating: Summary: I am not a hero... Review: With these words, Miep Gies begins her story of protecting the Frank family and the struggle to survive during the World War 2 Nazi occupation of Amsterdam. She is being quite modest considering the jeopardy she placed herself in and the sheer amount of effort and stress involved in protecting the Franks'.If you like Amsterdam, you will also love this book. A very keen observation of life in Amsterdam during this period. You feel like you are with Miep, bicycling thru the rain soaked, cobblestone streets, avoiding the "Green Police". One of the most disturbing points of the book is that Miep was accused, after the war, of being the one who turned in the Franks' to the Nazis. The most recent theories suggest it may have been the cleaning woman at the Prinsengracht house. I hope this was the case. I really want to believe that it is possible for someone to behave so selflessly and bravely during such terrible times. If Miep is telling the truth, she is right, she is not a hero, she is a saint.
