Summary: Wisdom For The Ages
Review: In this book Maya shares her life experiences and what she learned. This book is full of wisdom that every older person should pass to the next generation. I loved this book. I guess my godmother did too. She has yet to return my copy that I loaned her. I must rebuy this book and you should buy it too. It will be well worth the money

Summary: Down to earth!
Review: Maya Angelou has captured the essence of being a truly self-actualized individual and molded it into a comprehendable, sensible vehicle easily understood by us all. I recommend her writings to my therapy clients - she speaks to the heart. She is real - a veritable treasure!

Summary: inspiring
Review: Maya is a woman steeped in wisdom. If more people thought as profoundly as she the world would be a better place in which to live.

Summary: A Too Small Book with a Large Impact
Review: More than wit, Angelou writes with warm good humor about events of the years it took her to get where she is. One doesn't have to adopt for oneself all her life conclusions to appreciate how she came to them. While all human beings are equal, some are more equal than others, as Orwell would say, and Maya Angelou's talent is definitely in the class of more equal. Major complaint: There just wasn't enough of it.

Summary: Short but to the point
Review: Nourishing. Encouraging. Fulfilling! Do you have a copy of an excerpt from this book called "Style" that you can forward me? I always lend my books & never seem to receive them back:-)

Summary: This book has a lot of good advice and much wisdom
Review: One of the most memorable stories on this audio cassette (and in the book as well) is where Maya tells what her Mama (grandmother) would do when a known-whiner would come into their general store in Stamps, Arkansas.

Mama would call for Maya, saying, "Sister, come over here." When the "whiner" came in, Mama would ask them "How are you doing?" and the whiner would launch into a lengthy complaint about the weather and work and other things.

After this whiner left the store, Mama would turn to Maya and say "Sister, nobody likes to listen to someone who whines and complains..." and she'd tell Maya that there were lots of people - black and white, rich and poor - who went to bed last night and never woke up this morning, who'd give almost anything to have one more day of work or one more day in the summer's heat.

And the summation - "Sister, if you don't like something, change it. And if you can't change it, change the way you think about it."

This is a powerful book/audio tape. And it is narrated by Maya Angelou, which makes it even more of a treasure.

I'd highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to improve the way they think about life.

Summary: Nice Inspirational Essays
Review: These essays make nice bathroom or bed-side reading. Simple thoughts are brought out and put on a pedastal in an intentional manner that makes them seem profound. It's a good book to have if you need quotes or theme ideas for speeches or articles. It's kind of "Cherry On Top" kind of book. No meat and potatoes, but some nice special touches.
