Rating: Summary: Adventures of a Psychic: The Fascinating Inspiring True-Life Review: After reading this book, I started on a new journey wanting to know more on the subject of "Gnostic Christianity". I have seen Sylvia Browne on numerous television programs and have always been facinated by her abilities. Reading this book was like reading something I already knew. I thoroughly enjoyed her writing style, finding it extremely easy to understand. This was the type of book, for me, that I had to read until I finished it; and then I wanted more. As she states in her books, "take what you need and leave the rest........". I guess I have done just that and will continue to do so. If you need some enlightment and are tired of the same old stuff in religion, this is an excellent book to get started with. It gives you the insight of who Sylvia Browne is and where she is coming from. And hopefully, like me, you will find yourself reading one book of hers after another. ENJOY!!!
Rating: Summary: Enjoy "The Other Side and Back?" You'll Enjoy This too ! Review: After reading, enjoying and writing my review of Sylvia Browne's "The Other Side and Back" for Amazon.com, I was inspired to read this book. Her 249 page book details her interesting life and her special gift of prophecy. She describes what a psychic is, and how her life revolves around this special God given "gift." This is a gift that doesn't really make one's life easier. She tells about how her gift has helped her advise police departments searching for missing persons and criminals, and how some of her predictions helped others avoid dangerous situations. She also struggles with tragedies that she warned about, which resulted in deaths when her warnings were ignored. This book may bring comfort to believers (and some skeptics) and clarify their thinking about the present and the future. The book's 15 chapters include: A Psychic in Love, Growing Pains, Following the Blueprint, The Other Side, Haunting Expressions, Why Am I Here, Medicine and the Medium, and more. It's a very interesting read, and you might find yourself going back and reading some sections again in the future. It is thought provoking, even if you're a non-believer. The work may even make a believer of you! Whether or not you believe in psychics, knowledge is power, and you can only gain with this knowledge. Worth reading. I found it well worth the $ 10.36 price.
Rating: Summary: Awesome self-promotion Review: Detailed autobiography (though 3rd person) of the celebrity she thinks she is. If you can get through it - good luck!
Rating: Summary: A skeptic in Arizona, however....... Review: First let me say that I am very skeptical of all religions, especially the organized ones that only seem to want your money and I've been this way since I was a child. Also this last year has been the worst year of my life what with losing 4 family members including my husband and 4 close friends and my job, which was sent to India. So that's my background and mental state when I started reading this book.I liked the way Sylvia was bluntly honest in her describing herself and her life. She didn't make herself look completely wonderful or all-knowing. She seemed very down to earth. I was impressed by the fact that she provides a lot of free help to people. Yes, her personal readings are expensive, way out of my price range especially since I'm still unemployed, but her books are very reasonably priced. This book gave me a lot to think about and more than that, things to hope for. I tend to look at things from a very logical perspective and I've never found a religion that does that. Sylvia gave some very logical explanations that makes me feel somewhat better or at least more understanding of what has happened in my life in the past year. I think I'm able to look to the future with a more positive outlook than before reading this book. I'm still skeptical about religion but maybe not as skeptical about spirituality. But beware, reading this book could be exspensive. I just purchased three more of her books. :-)
Rating: Summary: Bit overhyped Review: For well-known psychics, business is big money. While I don't decry that anyone ought to be able to make a living at something, charging $750 per reading (as I understand she does now) is a bit much. Shouldn't the most neediest of people, the people who perhaps might most benefit from the reading be charged less? Gee, for $750, I'll tutor you for 3 or four days in physical science and one 100% percent of it will be accurate! My main quarrel with the book is its presentation of heaven. Greek architecture, a constant 78 deg F "climate," no bugs--just "friendly" animals, councils running the show (committees), and research places where scientists do the research for scientists on Earth. Maybe this is Ms. Browne's vision of heaven, but not mine, nor I suspect that of millions of others. The one thing that Ms. Browne is probably correct about, is that heaven exists in a higher set of dimensions with considerably higher frequencies. And it's also likely that as a consequence, a different set of physics probably applies. After that, your vision is probably as good as mine. I'm willing to bet to some extent, what any soul arriving in heaven experiences is going to be somewhat dependent on his or her knowledge and beliefs. Technology (and many other of mankind's activities) continues to wreck the earth despite the goodies it provides for us. The thought that there are people up there in "scientific institutions" busily inventing plasma TVs, the next version of Windows XP (hey, you didn't get the last version right), and better insecticides scares the bejesus out of me. Aren't they teaching enough ecology and themodynamics to you guys up there? (Heck, I'll teach you the basics for free--just "visit" me in the evening when a new episode of West Wing or CSI isn't on.) I do think that some of Ms. Browne's spirituality is appropriate; it just gets carried away some times. In case I'm totally wrong about this, it'll be a relief to know there won't be any roaches or spiders crawling around up there. :)
Rating: Summary: INTERESTING, PROVOCATIVE, AND ENTERTAINING... Review: Having seen Sylvia Browne on the Montel Williams show, I was certainly captivated by her psychic ability, as she seemed to be so on the money with her revelations about some of Montel's guests. I purchased this book in hope of finding out more about this intriguing woman, who certainly seemed to be blessed with a remarkable psychic gift. The book is informative and highly entertaining, as Sylvia relates her life story, and the reader discovers how she evolved to be the person she is today. She tells the reader of her dysfunctional family and suggests that her gift is a hereditary one. She describes her psychic gift in detail and informs the reader of the use to which she has put her ability. Her journey in life has, thus far, been a fascinating and unusual one. She also gives the reader her vision of what lies ahead for each and every one of us, after we have moved on from this earhly plane. While one cannot be sure whether she is right or wrong, it still makes for some thought provoking and interesting reading. She believes death to be one's reward for living. This is certainly philosophically in keeping with her vision of what lies ahead for each of us, after death. The book, written in a warm, breezy, conversational tone, is very reflective of Sylvia's actual cadence and personality. Whether or not one is a believer is irrelevant to the enjoyment that one will derive from reading this book. Keep an open mind!
Rating: Summary: A wonderful, reassuring book! Review: I have been wanting to read this book for a few years, but because it was out of print I wasn't able to find a copy. This book explains what it was like for Sylvia to grow up psychic. She has been able to use her gift to help so many others; she is truly inspirational. I found the book helpful in the regard that it made me feel better about myself. If you experience psychic events and sometimes think that maybe you are crazy this book is for you. Sylvia Browne also talks about the Church she created. I pray that one day I will get to talk with her and thank her for being so open with her experiences. This book also contains an update of her life since the book was first released 12 years ago. Adventures of a Psychic is an excellent book, I highly recommend it to everyone.
Rating: Summary: Absolutely wonderful, positively insightful!! Review: I have seen Sylvia Browne on television several times and since the first time I saw her, I felt that she was truly a gift from God. Even so, I didn't realize that she had faced so much sorrow in her life. Now that I have read her book, I see that she has had to deal with and overcome so much in her life, not to mention learning to use her gift to the best of her ability to serve God and to help others. And throughout it all, she has maintained a terrific sense of humor which is still very much a part of her today. I am more convinced than ever what a truly wonderful gift from God she is. I feel blessed to have been made aware of Sylvia. She shares openly and honestly about the other side and the meaning of life in general. Her book is an absolute must read! I look forward to any future books by or about her.
Rating: Summary: Very Inspiring Review: I loved reading about the life of psychic Sylvia Browne. It's not just any life story, it's actually chock full of inspiration for anyone who's ever been down and out. Here we learn how Sylvia got to where she is today and overcame such odds as her relationship with her mother and her previous, not-so-good, marriages. Everyone (and not just fledgling psychics) who wants to better themselves can benefit from this book. Check out the Life Themes. In my opinion, the price of the book is worth it if only for these.
Rating: Summary: Even skeptics will love this Review: I was so sad when I finished this book, thank goodness Sylvia has written more!! What an amazing life and when you read what Sylvia has to reveal about past lives and the other side you will never feel the same about life or death again. Even if you are a skeptic you can't deny a lot of what Sylvia explains(she even has pictures of a ghost she spoke with). Everything she says rings true and makes sense. After you finish this you'll be back at the bookstore for her next book, The Other Side And Back, which is just as facinating. Don't miss this experience, you'll feel a peace and understanding that will change your life. Thank you Sylvia!!!
