Summary: Couldn't put this one down
Review: For any one who has come from a "fundamentalist" background in to Catholicism, and are still fuzzy and or are still uncomfortable about Catholic teaching and theology, this book is a definite read. Actually this book is a definite read for anyone who wants a better handle on the Catholic faith (instead of relying on hearsay, or listening to anyone who believes that Catholics who aren't "saved" aren't really a christian).
I received this book on a Friday afternoon, and was finished with it by the next afternoon, I could acutually put in to two words how I felt when I finished reading it, "blown away". Coming from a fundamentalist background, Mr. Currie wrote this as an explanation to his family and friends in the "fundamentalist" style of writing, (which he explains quite clearly in the forward), which for Catholics reading this book might be an "in the face" kind of feel. I came from the same type of background he did, so the language was pretty easy for me to follow (I am still trying to get the hang of the Catholic language).
For Catholics, this is a joyful affirmation of who we are and "what it is and why's" we celebrate the Mass, scripture and tradition.
For Protestants who are seriously thinking about becoming Catholic, this book will be extremely helpful in 1. Easing any doubts and questions, and 2. being able to help you explain or defend yourself to family and friends.
For Protestants who want a better understanding of their Catholic Christian bretherin, this book will help you understand Catholicism better, however, it will challenge the ideology of your theology.

Summary: A very well thought out & compelling spiritual autobiography
Review: The author does an excellent job at expressing himself. He tells the readers where he was, spiritually and doctrinally, and where he is now. The majority of the book is how he got to where he is now. The book addresses questions that are becoming more comonplace as many Protestants migrate to the Catholic Church. I recommend this to anyone considering joining the Church, especially those counted among the protestant groups.

Summary: A Remarkable Journey
Review: David Currie was born into an evangelical family, was raised by parents who were both teachers at Moody Bible Institute, attended evangelical schools and married into another evangelical family. Early on in this book he writes of two experiences that clearly reveal the mindset he grew up with. It seems he had a crush on a girl but knew he could never date her because she was a Methodist and Methodists were too far away from his belief system to even allow him to date her. Also, as he walked home from school on the day that President Kennedy was killed, the sixth grader was sad not only because of the death but also because he was sure this Catholic president was in Hell. Clearly, David Currie had a long road to travel before he could end up a Catholic himself.

The beauty of this book comes from Currie's extensive evangelical education. Because of this education, the author is able to explain evangelical theology in a very clear and easy to understand manner. Starting from that point he then looks at Catholic theology and compares and contrasts the two. Therefore this book is useful to a Catholic who wishes to further understand evangelical beliefs as well as an evangelical who wishes to study the Catholic Church. This book will also be of great help to the new Catholic or those thinking of converting or becoming reconciled according to this author.

With the authors deep knowledge of evangelical as well as Protestant theology he is able to very deftly explain why he thinks the Catholic Church is the more Biblical. All of his points are very clear and well taken and more importantly, easy to grasp. I dare say that even cradle Catholics would learn a few things about their Church by reading this book. For anyone who is thinking of moving to the Catholic Church from a Protestant tradition this book is essential reading. Currie starts out from the Protestant perspective and then, taking the Bible and the writing of the Church fathers he moves over to the Catholic view. It is a step by step and very clear process and will do wonders at clearing up questions that any Protestant will have. For example, chapters three to five will go a long way in explaining the structure of the Church and it is accomplished in a way that any Protestant will understand.

There are some subjects that are a little deeper than others are and the reader will often want to check the scripture cited by the author and this is not a book for someone without any Christian background at all. Furthermore, many evangelicals and fundamentalists may find this work offensive as it time and again questions the very basics of their faith. On the other hand, these same people may be challenged to think out the theology of their church. Maybe they will come away with a stronger faith than before and maybe they will see things the way Currie did. Either way, they will have learned something and that is always good. For Catholics, we can never learn all there is to know about the Church, but this book will certainly help us along that road.

Summary: Too narrow but good nonetheless
Review: The one problem with this book was it was written for his family and friends and thus discusses their beliefs. Not all Protestants believe as he does.

Any way, many Protestants do share the beliefs David Currie once had. This book would be great for them. Going through each of the main points he had before becoming Catholic (Communion, the Bible, Authority, Salvation, the Incarnation, Mary, the end times, and moral issues) he shows how Biblically and historically the Catholic Church is the one who gets it right. This book is highly recommended.

Summary: Growing in faith
Review: Forever grateful for the charitable presentation of Mr. Currie's investigation of the Catholic Church. For those looking into the Catholic faith, I don't believe it is intended to substitute for a thorough personal investigation, but rather to help you step out in faith and study the issues, early Church history (really ALL of Church history), the teachings of the Church, and above all Biblical study, prayer and dependence on the guidance of the Holy Spirit to lead you into Truth. As a convert to the Catholic Church from a strong fundamentalist background, this book was wonderful to have someone who understood the lens from which I looked at each issue. I also recommend this highly to Catholics who not only want to understand the beauty of their Faith, but want to begin to understand their fundamentalist friends and family's point of view. A major breakdown in ability to communicate is a language barrier which is not easily understood by those who have either been Protestant or Catholic all their life. Mr. Currie offers a great gift in bridging that gap.
