Summary: I loved this book!
Review: Sometimes you read the perfect book for the perfect time in your life. That was what this book was for me. I have been involved in a Protestant church for 13 years and have been a member for 4 years holding Bible studies at my home and taking students to Mexico on mission trips, but I have felt that something is missing from the beliefs, the worship and the life of the evangelical churches. I have been drawn to the Catholic church and have been reading and studying everything I can get my hands on. I know I have come home. This book was just what I needed to help me on my spiritual journey. I believe what the author says and I cried when I read how much saying the Apostle's Creed meant to him. I attended Mass on Christmas and knew that I am a Catholic. If you are contemplating a move to the Catholic Church or you need to understand why someone would convert from evangelicalism or fundamentalism read this book!

Summary: It completely reaffirmed my faith in the one true Church.
Review: David Currie answered every important question that I have been struggling with regarding the Catholic Church. It solidified and reaffirmed my faith in my Church and best of all, he did it from a Protestant perspective. Every one of his conclusions are backed up by scripture and pure reason. You can come to no other conclusion, but that the Catholic Church is the one true Church.

Summary: Excellent "Nuts and Bolts" Look at Catholicism
Review: As someone who is converting to the Catholic faith, I can unequivocally recommend this book to anyone looking for the (solidly) Biblical basis for the Church's teachings.

Even though it is written by one, it's not a true "convert testimony" a la "Rome Sweet Home." An ex-Fundamentalist, Currie uses the NIV to defend the basis of Catholic teaching on everything from baptism to eschatology. The chapters on the Eucharist and salvation alone are worth the price.

In a similar vein I highly recommend "Surprised by Truth" by Patrick Madrid. This contains the stories of eleven recent converts and the Biblical citations that were instrumental in their conversions.

Summary: Terrific Book
Review: This book was my first start on really exploring the Catholic Church. I was stunned at how biblical the teachings were - I expected them not to be biblical at all. I am coming from a Lutheran background with some involvement in evangelical (non-denominational ) movements. I think he becomes less convincing (even to himself apparently) in the Marian doctrines. He never really addresses "all have sinned" when discussing the Immaculate Conception. If you want something better on that see Catholic Answers or "Catholicism and Fundamentalism" by Karl Keating . Another very good book is "Catholic and Christian" by Alan Schreck. Anything coming out of the community at Steubenville will be relatively attractive to someone coming from an evangelical/charismatic background. In summary, a very good book. For a very personal narrative see "Rome Sweet Home" by Scott and Kim Hahn.

Summary: A great book that shows real "Bible Christians" are Catholic
Review: Born Fundamentalist, Born Again Catholic is a great book to read. It clearly explains many Catholic doctrines and how they are firmly rooted in Scripture. It helps refute the false claim by anti-Catholics that we believe men are saved by works. It also helps show the logical fallacy Protestants have with authority (after all, if we are only to be believe what is taught in scripture, isn't it reasonable to ask why that isn't taught in scripture?). He also shows how the early church believed distinctively Catholic doctrines, but never distinctively Protestant doctrines. Any fundamentalist who reads this book and still does not believe in the truth of the Catholic Church is a close-minded person who allows prejudice to override scripture, history, and reason. The only thing you can do for such a person is pray. This book is well worth reading. I encourage all "Bible Christians" to find out which Church truly believes all of the Bible(and not selected verses).

Summary: Catholic now understands more about Protestantism
Review: Most of the times when I met the evangelicals knocking at my door, they told me that they were one time Catholics. I think they may referred to Martin Luther as an ex-Catholic priest, and who is founder of Protestant churches. They said they know what Catholics' believes; but I see what they know about Catholicism is only what they thought. Thanks Mr. Currie to help me to understand how the protestants using their logic to explain the Bible.

Summary: Catholicism is still a works based religion.
Review: I was raised as a Roman Catholic and left the church when I was born again as a fundamentalist. I cannot figure out how this man went to a school like Trinity Evangelical Divinity School and is now defending Roman Catholicism. He uses all the Catholic rhetoric to defend his faith, but what it boils down to is that Roman Catholicism preaches that one is saved by works and that is absolutely wrong according to Scripture.

Summary: EXCELLENT! It puts into words, what I know in my heart.
Review: I was born Catholic but still had a lot of unanswered questions. A friend recommended this book and it's a treasure I don't want to give back. I highly recommend this book whether you are Catholic or not. It explains a lot about the Catholic faith in a simple, easy to read format, especially about the "body and blood and Christ. My thanks to Mr. Currie for writing this book. This book is so good you will want all of your friends to read it.

Summary: Powerful. So good I'm buying more for some of my friends.
Review: This book systematically covers the main objections evangelicals have against the church Christ started and backs it up with scripture. It's also a great source of information for Catholics having their faith challenged, or just interested in why they believe what they believe.

Summary: Catholics CAN learn to defend their faith!
Review: As a cradle Catholic who grew up with faith as the only defense of my beliefs, it became increasingly difficult to answer the queries and allegations presented by my protestant acquaintances. I wasn't armed with the objective information needed to give those who would accuse me of worshipping Mary, denying the resurrection, and other common attacks of my Church. It was obvious that THEY had no idea what the Catholic Church really teaches, but it was equally true that I didn't either. After reading this book (5 times so far), I have become much better 'armed' to correct those common misconceptions from both Catholic and Protestants. Because of this book, I have spent many hours searching the scriptures and the Catechism of the Catholic Church....a practice long neglected! I have developed a new love of my faith, and a desire to share it...rather than constantly being on the defense from those well-meaning but uninformed 'experts' who would 'save' me from the Church that preserved the very Bible they themselves profess to follow. This book is a 'must read" starting point for Protestants who can discern unanswered questions in their own faith, and for any Catholic who finds themselves constantly trying to defend their beliefs or experiencing a crisis of faith. Give it five stars!
