Rating: Summary: Great read for Catholics as well as for any who question! Review: After 35 years of marriage, my husband (born fundamentalist... and practicing) began to show interest in my beliefs as a Roman Catholic. (He has since enrolled to study to become a Catholic!) I purchased Currie's book and we read and discussed it together. What a great resource! I am an avid reader regarding my religion, but had not read this book. It answered his questions and he had many! He was raised in a fundamentalist family and attended a Baptist College as an undergraduate, so I needed help in providing good documentation for Catholic beliefs and practices...this book does a wonderful job! Thank you David Currie. My husband has finally seen the light!
Rating: Summary: I loved this book I am buying 4 more copies for my family. Review: I was a Catholic growing up but did not understand my faith. I had so many fundamentalist friends, I became a fundamentalist. It wasn't until this past year I returned to my true faith. This book helped me to understand and heal. My family is now reading it and would like copies. I am ordering 4 more copies. Mr. Currie's terminology is simple and straight to the point. I would recommend this book for any family that has members that are fundamentalist and Catholic.
Rating: Summary: The best treatment of Catholic positions I've read Review: David Currie's "Born Fundamentalist Born Again Catholic" presents in clear and cogent terms Catholic positions on issues that have for centuries frustrated Protestant Christians. The book is written lovingly with no condescension, and no arrogance. The case is made for most if not all of the topics the author discusses. While it is not a thorough presentation of Catholic doctrine, it nevertheless is a wonderful jumping off point for coming to terms with the Church. The topical layout of the book is useful: chapters deal variously with the authority of the Church, the Pope, Soteriology (the study of salvation), and Mary (among others). Many people have been moved by Scott Hahn's conversion story, which is compelling in its own way, but I think this book surpasses even Hahn's "Rome Sweet Home." I HEARTILY recommend this book to anyone who honestly wants to know what the Church teaches.
Rating: Summary: Clear and easily understandable. Review: This book provides such a clear and understandable picture of the differences between Catholics and Evangelicals! As an adult convert to Catholicism, I found this book a great resource for explaining our Faith to Protestants. Actually, I'm not a convert--I've just returned home to Christ's Church!!!!
Rating: Summary: Liked it so much I bought 20 copies. Review: David Currie is gentle toward his fundamentalist forebears. You can see the fruits of the spirit as he appreciates what he learned about Christ as a Prostestant. My favorite sentence is when he recalls a professor at Gordon Conwell who remarked that Christians have done their best evangelism when Protestant-Catholic animosities are at a low ebb. Maybe we're getting close to some MAJOR evangelism in the next decade or two?
Rating: Summary: Excellent, easy to understand Review: Can you imagine changing your religion, especially if you are a Fundamentalist to a church you fought so hard against. But yet this is what Mr D. Currie. He gave up a lot to be a Catholic, job security, friends etc. But his convictions overwhelm him and he had no other choice, but what a blessed choice. He definitely followed God's calling, God bless him. I reccomend this book to anyone who is studying apologetics, very good material and easy to read and understand. He writes with passion, and harbors no bad feeling to his former fundamentalists roots. This book is definitely tops on my list.
Rating: Summary: A great book for explaining the Catholic Church Review: This book is great for explaining the Catholic Church to family and friends that are Evangelical in belief. It goes to the root of their beliefs. Mr. Curry then goes on to give the biblical reasons and support of the Catholic Faith. It is a great book about a faith journey. I can not put it down. This book even helped me to understand both the Catholic Church as well as Evangelicals. As a new Catholic myself this book gives my thoughts and feelings, life.
Rating: Summary: A wonderful book! Review: I loved this book. I learned so much
Rating: Summary: Finally, authentic answers to authentic questions. Review: I am a 47 year old man who is just finishing his R.C.I.A. program through my local parish. I still had a number of gnawing questions in terms of Mary, Salvation, Saints, the Eucharist, etc., until David Currie's book came into view at a local religious bookstore. I hesitated to spend time in the store reviewing it or even purchasing it, but I was desperate to find my answers before I received the Sacraments of Confirmation and First Communion at the Easter Vigil. After having read "Born Fundamentalist, Born Again Catholic," I had found (or more precisely, was shown) the most authentic and satisfying answers that I felt were intellectually honest and spiritually inspired. Thank you, Mr. Currie
Rating: Summary: An excellent book for both catholics and protestants! Review: This book was a wonderful work. David Currie is obviously a knowledgeable theologian who presents his points very clearly and accurately, and without being offensive to protestants. He also gives excellent explanations for many trivial issues which he struggled with in his conversion to catholicism, such as the Eucharist, infallibility of the Pope, praying to Mary and Saints, the Mass,as well as his biblical reasons for leaving protestantism altogether. As a young adult protestant, I was throughly impressed with this wonderful and informative material. The book not only answered a lot of questions I had about Catholicism, but helped me to see the Catholic side of religious issues.
