Rating: Summary: Bridging The Gap Review: As a Catholic, I was finding it impossible to dialogue with members of another faith. I didn't get what they were saying, and they certainly didn't get what I was saying. The beauty of this book is that it is written in a language which Evangelicals can understand, rather than one which I, alone, will understand. More importantly, it helps to understand life from their perspective. The result is that you begin talking to them, not at them. It is not as factual as some other books might be, but it is definetly more useful. I still refer to it often.
Rating: Summary: Excelent reasoning and sopport for importnat church issues Review: I loved this book! I read it one night and hurriedly gave it to my not-quite-convinced boyfirend who needs mroe information and scriptural support for catholicism. If you're familiar with any protestant tradition, or don't think Catholicism is truly Christian, this book will really enlighten you. This book is bound to convert almost anybody, especially if they're Catholic-curious in the first place. If you're new to the faith, it will definately reaffirm your faith. The author converted in mid-life after being raised a funamdnetlaist preacher's son, going to Bible college and marrying a stong protestant. He got graduate religion degrees and preached himself, also doign a lot of street/college/mall evangelization. If you have a skeptical firend or faily member, they will be able to rely on this man to be fair and knowledgable about the protestant side. Highly recommend!
Rating: Summary: The Quintessential Catholic Apologetic book Review: I read this book to see if it would be good for explaining my Catholic faith to my brother-in-law and others "bible" Christian friends. Only a short way into the book, I realized that this book was the greatest testimony to the Catholic faith that I had ever read. Its presentation from the perspective of a person not wanting to be Catholic and furthermore a Fundamentalist not wanting to be Catholic should dispell any doubt in those who read it that Catholicism is Christ's True Church. It is the quintessential book on proving the faith. Furthermore, I think it is the perfect Cathechism for the uninformed Catholic or the non-Catholic trying to discern what the Church actually teaches. I consider myself a very well read (theologically, historically, and biblically) Catholic who has heard all the arguments against the Chruch destroyed by countless authors and apologists. This book swept up any arguments that were left. It is the knockout punch. I think it would be impossible to not become Catholic after reading this book. I am a very devout Catholic, and even I felt like I had converted to the Catholic Church when I was finished. If you read no other book in your life, read the bible, and then read this book. Thank you, David Currie, for a treasure of a book. I would recommend this book as much as Augustine's City of God or Aquinas's Summa Theologica.
Rating: Summary: I was born Catholic.....then Born Again Fundamentalist Review: When I became a "Born Again Christain" I was taught that the Catholic Church was bad, that they worshiped Saints and Statues and Idols when your only supposed to worship God (among other misunderstandings), being so nieve at a young age I stopped going to the Catholic Church. I didn't even understand my own faith so I was easily convinced to join a non-denominatiol bible teaching church. There are many misunderstandings about the Catholic Church...even for Catholics.....this book is a must. I have been drawn back to my Catholic faith through this book. I HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone who has questions on what Catholics believe and why. Beware....If your not a Catholic you'll become one after you read this book.
Rating: Summary: so far, so good Review: I am still reading this book.....I am a Catholic but still learning about my faith. In college I drifted towards a "Bible-only" attitude till I read "Rome Sweet Home" by Scott Hahn. (Read that one too!) Well, since then, my heart is pointed towards the one true faith...Catholicism.Extra Ecclesiam Nulla Salus! Outside the Church there is NO SALVATION!
Rating: Summary: born again also Review: I am also a born again catholic. I was raised a baptist, and always knew something was wrong. Currie aptly put all my feelings into words. His succint yet thourough debunking of all the misconceptions about God's church is a breath of fresh air. What truly inspired me most about the book though, is the fact that it obviously is a labor of love for him....His journey was my own....
Rating: Summary: Explains Why Catholicism is Christ's True Church Review: I was raised a Presbyterian and became a born-again Christian in my early teens. I never quite felt at home in my newfound fundamentalist religious beliefs. Initially it was scientism and skepticism that kept me from committing myself 100 percent. However, as I grew older, I found Catholicism to be a solid rock that complimented my emerging conservative inclinations. However, I was still hung up on all the reasons why Catholicism is supposedly false - reasons drilled into my head throughout my teen years. But David Currie put all of those reasons to rest. I can now fully appreciate the Catholic faith as Christ's Church. In a world where change is promoted and glorified for its own sake, it is wondrous and glorious to belong to God's holy body that seeks to promote and affirm God's immutable and eternal Truth. I encourage open-minded fundamentalists and evangelicals to read this book and discover for themselves the order, beauty, and magnificence of the Catholic Church.
Rating: Summary: Many questions answered Review: What a great book. I am studying to be a deacon and my children have so many questions about their religion. Many of their friends at college keep questioning their faith and ask why they believe what they do. This book answered so many of those questions. I also plan to buy more copies to give to my brother and cousin who have been pulled away from their faith by others who don't feel that Catholic's are true Christians and follow the Bible closer than some of the others religions who say follow it.
Rating: Summary: Wonderfully descriptive of a spiritual journey. Review: A book that needed to be written. Clear, historical, emotional and spiritual.
Rating: Summary: A must-read for anyone with a SERIOUS hunger for the truth Review: As a convert to Catholicsm from Evangelical Protestantism, I was delighted and amazed at the profoundness of the truths in this book and in the identical feelings of the author to mine during his conversion to the Church that Christ began. Exellent!!!
