Summary: Rome Sweet Home
Review: The late Bishop Fulton Sheen once wrote: "There are not 100 people in the United States who hate the Catholic Church. There are millions, however, who hate what they wrongly believe to be the Catholic Church." This book is for all those millions. Scott Hahn is one of the most brilliant minds in the Church today, is extra-ordinarily spiritually-gifted, and is, in my opinion, a modern day St. Paul. Yet, he writes in a readable, easy-to-understand, and easy-to-identify-with style.

Summary: It brought me back to Christ and His Church after 25 years
Review: Last week I read this book in an afternoon and an evening. It is clear and persuasive. I was away from the Church for over 25 years, and this brought me back. Thank you Scott and Kimberly Hahn. I went to confession the next night, and then found out from the priest that Scott was speaking at a neighboring parish the next night. It was great. I'm now reading his newest book, "First Comes Love," and it is just as clear, only deeper. If you are reading this review, stop and buy this book, and then read IT instead. Then try "First Comes Love".

Summary: Good, but don't expect more than it offers
Review: This book is a great story of a couple's struggle to find the true Church of Jesus and then to be obedient to God's will. These things are certainly not easy and the Hahn's show us that.

Don't expect a theological treatise as to the truth of Catholicism, this book does not do that. In fact, all the reasons for conversion are not spelled out completly because to do so would take a thousand more pages. The Hahn's have helped thousands of Catholics become affirmed in their faith and helped thousands more come to the fullness of faith. This book is their story on how they did the same.

Summary: This book brought me back home to the Church after 20 years
Review: Thank you Scott and Kimberly Hahn. Because of this book, I have rediscovered the Bible and Jesus Christ as my personal Savior and Lord IN THE HOLY EUCHARIST. What an incredible testimony. I would also recommend Scott's other books, especially "First Comes Love", "The Lamb's Supper" and "Hail Holy Queen".

Summary: missing pieces
Review: As I read this book...I kept thinking that it was missing pieces. It didn't seem to acurately explain how he got from one point to another. He seemed to say that he studied and studied and came to these conclusions, but the it doesn't seem that he really presents the arguments for his jump very well.

It all started with them dealing with issues over contraception. They decided that contraception was wrong, and then declare that the Catholic church is the only church who teaches this. The Amish, as a group, don't believe in birth control either. Neither do a lot of Protestants as individuals.

It doesn't seem that for being so educated...they give much information. They do not give very good arguments for the Protestant side of it...which would seem they would have if they were truly Protestant Christians with theological degrees and being a pastor at that.

He claims that he studies and studies and thinks things through, but then he gives no biblical basis whatsoever to praying to Mary. He just decides to take a leap of faith at that point and begins praying to her.

He seems to be missing a relationship to Jesus, and if he does have one...throughout the book it seems as if that is not enough.

It just didn't make sense. It didn't seem genuine.

Summary: Thanks Mr.Hahn
Review: This book is excellent. I don't know where the last reviewer finds his pity for Mr.Hahn except out of ignorance. He or she needs to spend more time reading and learn to truly understand the teachings of Jesus. With terms like new yacht and old canoe it is clear that this reviewer has truly missed the forest for the trees. By using materialistic discriptions of the faith, the previous reviewer obviously missed the big picture. Great book all around. It is very easy and enjoyable to read. Thanks Again, Mr.Hahn.

Summary: A must read for any Catholic struggling with the Faith
Review: I read "Rome, Sweet Home" last year, and I must say that this book teaches more about the ACTUAL and AUTHENTIC teachings of the Catholic Church than I had gotten in ANY CCD class as a youth. After many years as a "cafeteria-style Catholic", I nearly left the Church until I went to a state-funded college (at the age of 26) that taught an ORTHODOX, AUTHENTIC teaching. Theology was discussed on what the Catholic Church believes, and the students I met there PRACTICED and LIVED their faith. This gave me a lot more drive to learn more about our Catholic faith.

I have to admit, the first time I heard of Scott Hahn was when a friend of mine invited me over to see one of his tapes (back in 1996). I thought Scott Hahn was some kind of a lunatic. However, as my journey increased and I grew more knowledgeable about the Catholic Church, doctrines, beliefs, more frequent visits to the sacraments, I found that Scott Hahn is definitely on target. It saddens me that there are parishes today in the United States that still will not let Scott Hahn come in and give seminars. Both Scott and Kimberly have lots of enthusiasm. Franciscan University of Steubenville is honored to have Scott Hahn as a professor there, where 50% of the student body attends daily Mass.

Many questions on theology are answered in "Rome Sweet Home", such as faith and works, the creed, humanae vitae, one baptism, reconciliation, and my favorite, the Holy Eucharist. Scott Hahn writes in plain English, which makes "Rome, Sweet Home" easy to understand. Scott Hahn explains biblical background for what the Catholic Church teaches, which makes it a good apologetics book of understanding the differences between the Catholic Church and some of the Protestant religions.

In reading "Rome, Sweet Home", I had found that Scott Hahn has a lot of drive to learn (he spent years reading everything)and I must say that "sometimes it takes an immigrant to explain things to the natives."

I highly recommend "Rome, Sweet Home", and I appreciate this work by Scott and Kimberly Hahn. I recommend it as required reading for all Catholics, particularly younger Catholics and those Catholics who are struggling with many Catholic issues.

There is a little talk relating to sex, but it is treated in a mature fashion, so I would recommend it for high schoolers. I GUARANTEE IF MORE YOUNG PEOPLE READ THIS, THEY WOULD NOT BE LEAVING THE CATHOLIC CHURCH FOR PROTESTANT FAITHS AND THE NON-DENOMINATIONAL CHURCHES!!

Summary: Poor Scott Hahn
Review: Why did Scott Hahn have to move from a theologically solid Reformed evangelical camp to the Roman Catholic camp? This is a sad story of a man who moved away from the New Heaven and Earth to the Old Heaven and Earth. RCC wants to make the New Covenant like the Old Covenant. Why would Hahn want to move away from the glorious blessings of the New Covenant and move to the ineffectual "blessings" of the Old Covenant? Moving from evangelical Protestantism to Roman Catholicism is like moving from a priceless yacht to a worn-out canoe.

Summary: ok
Review: I bought this book after being interested in Hahn's story after reading an article on the internet. One should realize the scope of this book before reading it. It is a nice inspirational testimony of Scott and Kimberly's journey to Roman Catholicism from a prior protestant understanding of Christianity. That said, if one is looking to see the great arguments laid out in details for why one is better off in Roman Catholicism, then you should look elsewhere. For what the book attempts to lay out and present (the difficulties and happiness that comes with a conversion process to Roman Catholicism) it does a good job. 4 stars.

Summary: A Journey of Monumental Proportions
Review: I agree with the person who said that Rome Sweet Home should be read by everyone, but particularly by Catholics. This is a story of a journey to the Catholic Church that was not easy for eather Scott or Kimberly. Through this book, we are allowed to journey along with them on a road of true discovery fraught with difficulty. In the end, they make a discovery that changes their lives forever.

At the same time, this book is a must have for any cradle Catholic who wishes to have a better grasp of the Bible. It's the book they should read first, before tackling any of Scott or Kimberly's other works. This book truely introduces average Catholics to a way of understanding the Bible that makes it more of a joy to read by being introduced to the Covenant. As a result, everyone begins to appreciate their faith more fully. The Hahn's truely make being Catholic something to be truely appreciated.
