Summary: Think of it as a "fantasy epic" mixed with history.
Review: First let me say that The Bible was easily the most challenging, thought provoking, and difficult book I have ever read by far. The length alone will drive most people away. Finishing this book for me was truly a test of character.

In a nutshell, the Bible is this: God creates man, man sins. It then proceeds through the history of God's people, the birth of Abraham, Issac, and Jacob, whose twelve sons would form the twelve tribes of Israel, the exodus of the enslaved out of Egypt. The rule of Judges and later the rule of kings, the division of the kingdom into two separate nations, Israel and Judah, the sin of God's people, the captivity by Babylon and Assyria. During the captivity, the prophets spoke of a messiah. The New Testament, and Jesus is proclaimed this messiah, and, along with his disciples, gives the plan for salvation of God's people as well as the Gentiles (non Jews). The Bible wraps up with the end of the world and the new heaven and earth.

Throughout the year or so where I read The Bible, I shifted between translations, Some NIV and some KJV. I have never been a religious person, in fact, I am pretty much an atheist, but I won't lie, I did ponder the existence of God while reading. If I got anything out of this, it is inspiration to be as charitable as I can be within my means. Jesus is the shining example of this.

The Bible, though written by many people over a long time, as a whole truly tells a fantastic story. It is simply the greatest story ever told, and has inspired billions.

Summary: Complete Bible - NIV
Review: How can one improve on God's word? I found the diction very easy to follow, even to the OT names in the geneologies, ie, Kings, Chronicles, etc. As a student, by reading the printed page and listening to the tape together, I found I retained much more of what the writer was trying to tell. (especially in the OT Narritives) However, if the format was CD, and each book was separated, one could move to a given passage easier than attempting to find the passage on tape. Would recomend this to anyone, student, lay person, or even a newcomer to The Word.

Summary: Listen and live the words of Yahweh for your Salvation.
Review: I am a portuguese and I do not use the English as a spoken language. I have already listened to the entire Bible and I found it very comprehensible and easy, because of the vivid style and a smart background sound that put the Bible in the correct ambient or place. The word of Yahweh God takes the first place. Contains 48 cassettes of 90 minutes each: 36 for the Old Testament and 12 for the New Testament. It is packet in an ordinary commercial package of hardpaper but the quality of the sound recorded is excellent. The way how the Bible is read is also very, very good, even to persons that have only a few years of English and do not use it everyday as a spoken language. It is very difficult to do better for such a price.

Summary: New International Bible
Review: I am getting a masters in theology and a lot of reading is required. Since I drive 2 hours to work and then 2 hours home, these tapes are a great help in getting required bible passages done. I particularly like the sound effects. It also affords me the luxury of playing the tapes more than once so that after listening I can quickly reference passages in the book. Great voice, clarity, pronunciation.

Summary: The Greatest Stories Ever Told
Review: I cannot describe how wonderful the whole Bible is, but it has been a wondeful blessing. While you may have been read Bible stories by your parents at bedtime when you were young, you may not have had all of the stories. But with the whole Bible (both Old and New Testaments) you can get the full story. The Holy Bible has been read for about 2,000 years, and it still has a powerful impact on people. The Bible is the story of God told by man. And because many believe that God spoke through the writers of the Bible, a collection of books, it has been called "The Word of God".

Learn the teaching of the Christian and Jewish faiths with the Bible, which will give you imformation on their beliefs. The Bible is you #1 guide to learning about those two religions, and it is also your #1 guide when learning their cultures, teachings, and morals. For thousands of years, millions of people have been using the Bible as their morality book. With dozens of stories to live by, many people can learn from the Bible. Journey with the Israelite people, told in the Old Testament, as they struggle to live a good and Godly life.

Not only is the Bible the story of God, but it is also the story of man and woman, and how they struggle to avoid sin and do good. To tell the story of evil and sin, the Bible describes the consequences of doing bad things, such as death, suffering, and destruction. When there is sin, there is death. But the Bible is also a book of hope and happiness, which describes the happiness of good people, the joy of the world, and hope for bad people. It describes the forgiveness given to evil people who turn away from their wickedness. The Bible is also a book of poetry, which includes the Book of Psalms and the majestic and moral Book of Proverbs.

With many of those things, the Bible is a book that many can benefit from. Yes, people can misinterpret it, just as the Taliban misinterpreted Islam, but study and understanding of God's word can help you understand it. It will last forever!

Summary: An excellent alternative
Review: I do a lot of driving (4 hours/day) and these tapes help me stay in the Word. It doesn't replace reading the Bible, but when you spend so much time in a car every day it is the next best thing to reading the Word. I like the dramatization in the Gospels and the background music. Also the narrator is very easy on the ears. I would highly recommend this audio Bible for anyone who can't seem to get enough time to read the Good Book.

Summary: THE version to read
Review: I found out about this version of the Bible when I was about sixteen years old, and ever since then it has been my choice of Bible.

This version of the Bible is far easier to read than the King James Version, which was antiquated about 300 years ago.

What is significantly different about this version of the Bible over the others is that this version was translated from the original Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek, rather than being a "translation of a translation", as other versions are.

Also, the translations were reviewed by members of all the major denominations, to ensure that no one verse favors any sectarian bias.

If you read any Bible for study or inspiration, this version is the one to get.

Summary: disheartened
Review: I purchased this set of tapes because I desperately need to find God. I've been assured the search begins with his WORD. This production is an impediment to that search. The words are read without interpretation, sometimes so fast that it is obvious a task is being hurried through. The same characterless music is repeated ad nauseum. Compare this with Max McLean's performances and you will never want to listen to a "solely for profit" production like this one again.

Summary: Portable - the size of a paperback novel.
Review: That's what I like best about this Bible. You can read it easily - it's not too big and heavy, the pages aren't too thin. Plus the cover is very cute and makes it look just like a regular book. NIV means it's been translated into easy-to-understand English. The Book of Revelation is especially easier to read than in other translations.

Summary: An outstanding read
Review: The Bible claims to be God's word. A claim of which upon reading, I am fully convinced.

The Old Testament speaks of the truth that God made the earth, including humanity for relationship with him. But within the first 3 chapters a tragic event occurs, Adam and Eve (humanity) reject God as their ruler and creator by ignoring his instruction not to eat from the tree of good and evil. They believed the serpent and thought that they knew better than God.

Because of they reject God, Adam and Eve are expelled from the garden and the perfect life they once experienced with God there, is no-more. Humanity is cut off from perfect relationship with God. Because of this rebellion humanity is under the judgement of God for running our lives our own way and ingnoring him. The rest of the bible, is the unfolding story of how the perfect relationship with God is fully restored

God makes promises to his people, the Isrealites that he will send a saviour/king, and as you read the Old Testament you discover that the relationship between God and Israel is a rocky one. At times they trust and follow him obeying the laws God set out for them in Leviticus. But because of their impatience they give up on God taking matters into their own hands. The climax of the Old Testament is the appointment of the King of Israel, David (1&2 Samuel). However even this great king is not the promised messiah, and Isreal is without a saviour. It is not until your the New Testament gospels that we see that it is actually God himself who restores humanity to himself. Not their own goodness but God in his graciouness sends his own Son to pay the penaltly for the rebellion and sin of the world. In a twist of irony, God's Son Jesus takes the punishment that the worlds deserves for ignoring him, so that if you put your trust in him you can be saved from judgement and the punishment for your sin.

It is indeed a truely remarkable book with amazing twists in the plot and a fascinating ending that you will simply have to read for yourself. It's changed my life.
