Rating: Summary: If you are a Christian, this material is not for you. Review: I believe that Robert Burney is sincere in his desire to help people who are having problems with codependent issues. His ideas and philosophy is well presented and probably very helpful to non-christians who are struggling with life's tougher issues. However if you have any love Jesus at all you'll likely find this material offensive. (I'm no saint, believe me) So if you are christian, leave this selection behind and pick up your Bible instead. The answers really are in there after all.
Rating: Summary: A real gem to listen to Review: I bought this tape because I have been attending CODA meetings and wanted to get a new perspective on codependence. Robert Burney more than delivers in this audio tape. He points out that AA and its spin-off twelve-step programs are really part of a spiritual awakening whose time has come. Burney uses the term "outer dependence" to point out that the root of codependence is relying on anything out there (jobs, education, friends, that special someone, money, power, and so on) to make us feel better. The author challenges us to look at things inside out and look inward for a sense of well being and true value. Burney talks about healing the inner child and how important that works for a truly healthy sense of well being. The author also challenges us to take a hard look at society and organized religion that programs us to BE CODEPENDENT. Burney also shares his thought about the mystery called life. He presents many wonderful insights about living our lives and achieving balance or wholeness. His ideas agree with Carl Jung's notion that wholeness (and NOT perfectness) is what we humans need to be at inner peace. I feel that this audio tape is a wonderful challenge for everyone who is asking questions and who is struggling to make sense of life. Burney has a lot to share. I have benefited from this tape greatly, as it gave me a valuable insight on codependence and how to seriously disempower it. I have decided not to attend the CODA meetings anymore as these 12-step programs themselves can and often do become a crutch and a new more subtle addiction. The audio tape became a strategic tool to empower me over my codependence. This audio tape is a must for you if you are a seeker!
