Rating: Summary: A clear, well-written introduction to intonational phonology Review: This is an extremely good, well-written, introduction to intonational phonology. It clearly presents the auto-segmental metrical theory of intonational phonology developed by Janet Pierrehumbert and others. Other introductory books on intonation (Cruttenden's Intonation and Couper-Kuhlen's An introduction to English Prosody) lack sufficient coverage of this important theory. The book also presents good summaries of intonational meaning and cross-language comparisons. A great, easy-to-read book. Definitely 5-stars
