Summary: Tactics on generating quantity irrespective of quality
Review: I bought this book mainly because it is in the same series of the wonderful book "Getting Tenure". However, I was very disappointed. The author devotes the entire book on the politics of publishing, irrespective of the quality of the materials being published. It is unfortunate that current evaluation systems (on promotion and tenure) at most research institutions force people to use some politics in publishing. Living in such an environment, the author enjoys telling the reader how to generate quantity irrespective of quality, but fails to raise the moral concern that quality should be much more important. The reader can benefit from this book in terms of realizing that many people advanced their "carrers" by using various tactics of publishing described in the book. But if the reader practices these tactics on a regular basis, the whole society undoubtedly will suffer.
