Review: Although there are many sections of "CATegorically Speaking" that I frequent, none is more dog-eared than "A Lexicon of Word Associations" where so many writing issues can be easily resolved -- homonyms, antonyms, word pairs and families, rhyming words, etc. Since examples speak volumes, here are a few selected at random:

BAOUS = abuse KHAOUS = child abuse SWAOUS = sexual abuse SPAOUS = spousal abuse KROTD = carotid PROTD = parotid ARM = arm DARM = disarm Y-LT = yellow light GR-LT = green light R-LT = red light SHAIRB = certiorari WRAIRB = writ of certiorari

Elsewhere in this book you will find sections on speaker identification, multiple alphabets, multiple numbering systems (decimals and fractions, ordinals and Roman numerals, US currency, time formats), prefixes and suffixes, superlatives, etc.

With so much basic information, this book is definitely a "must-have" for reporters and students, particularly those working on fine-tuning their realtime skills.
