Review: Dr. Rhoades has written a comprehensive, professional, well-organized manual for veterinarians, euthanasia technicians, shelter personnel, and those who work with animals. She considers the humane aspects, legal restrictions, personal attitudes, historical background and, and the varied methods available for many species of animals. Though sodium pentobarbital is the only legal method in New Jersey, it is important for my students to have the knowledge of all methods for comparison, understanding, and possible work elsewhere.

Summary: Much Needed Tool
Review: I think the thing that I appreciate most about this manual is the language that its written in. It is so easy to comprehend and uses realistic examples to inform readers as to the correct tools and routes of administration when faced with this often very difficult and sometimes dangerous task. After reading the manual myself we've now implemented it into our shelters curriculum for euthanasia training as well as made it required reading for all staff involved in the process. Thank-you Dr. Rhoades for sharing your knowlege, skill and compassion with all of us in animal welfare.
