Rating: Summary: Good For Facility Planners Review: I bought this book before wiring up a major radio studio facility. I read the whole thing cover-to-cover. The parts about audio wiring and audio cables were well worth the money. I would recommend this book to audio engineers. In fact, this book was recommended to ME by a fellow radio engineer!
Rating: Summary: Thats great Review: Im glad the reviewers below liked the book so much, but really I found nothing amazing that couldnt be found in your introductory dc/ac circuit analysis book! The only thing of interest may be the discussions relating to digital data rates and networks(bit error rates, structural return loss) and some mention of digital video. The paragraph on S-Video is about 3 sentences long! The material is obviously dated. As far as audio and analog as these previous reviewers seemed to stress, like I said nothing you couldnt get in your circuit analysis text and cheapo cabling books. Diagrams are cheesy and really lacking if you wanted to discuss connections. The material and explanations are really lite as well. The authors writing structure and grammar is horrible! . Its like the tried to cram information (very summarized and incomplete information) into a smaller space. Some tables are useful, but not extremely. I think this leaves out alot of information people may be looking for. The only reason I have written this review is because the book is NOT worth that price, used or new. Maybe a little over half of that for what you get. You could find this on the internet at the discovery channel or some other elementary electronics site.
Rating: Summary: The sensible book on cabling you're looking for Review: It is so hard to find anything useful written on the top of audio cabling, especially when so much of it is marketing hype written by people whose understanding of electrical and audio engineering seems to have been derived from a careful study of science fiction. Lampen's book, on the other hand, is a handy, concise, and well illustrated reference for the guy (or gal) who needs to plug one sound creating doodad into another. And it's clear and well-written to boot!
