Rating: Summary: buying my second copy . . . Review: I am working with middle and high school students who have reading problems. This book includes several approaches to reading instruction, and itself becomes a workbook for the student. It is organized well and does not "talk down" to students by using "less than" adult content. I am finding it useful, and it inspires ideas of my own to try as well. My expertise on phonics, word roots, reading comprehension is broad, but not stellar. Still, most of what Wilf presents squares with my knowledge, unlike some instructional books which have information that is simplistic, or just plain wrong. At the same time I read this book, I was reading Moustafa's Beyond Traditional Phonics. Although Moustafa is talking about reading instruction with young students, the two books in tandem gave me a nice balance for developing my ideas.
