Review: A classic in German language acquisition and for good reason. I used this myself over 20 years ago when learning German in college and now use it for instructing adult learners. The format has changed somewhat, but the content, exercises and practical nature of the lessons remain valuable, immediately useful, and succinct.

Review: I too found this book to be excellent. There is indeed a lot presented and as with any language it is important to master the materiel prior to moving forward. This text was also selected as the German 101 & 102 text package for McGill University of Montreal.

Summary: Very helpful.
Review: I used this book for my German 101 and 102 classes. It was well-organized and very informative, and the writing style, while not exactly gripping, was easy to get through. The only problem I had with it was with the dialogues at the beginning of each chapter. They contained grammar that we'd not yet learned. This was more frustrating than actually hindersome, though, so it doesn't stop me from giving the book five stars. I'd recommend it to any beginning German student.
