Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: Good, but it's getting old Review: This book is a few years old(1994), and therefore is in danger of becoming dated. I guess as long as we are using the tools and equipment we have, this book will be relevant and useful. As of the current date, the techniques and skills presented in this book are as useful today as they were when the book was written. This subject is too important that any firefighter would be ignorant or uneducated. Though this is more of an intriduction to Hazardous Materials operations, this book is a vital aspect of containing hazardous materials. I've foudn other Hazardous Materials books such as "Managing the Incident" go to the depth that is required for HazMat Operations. Many of the chapters are brilliantly written and excellent for learning. Some of the chapters will never become outdated because they are so basic and well explained, such as the risk assessment chapter. It is good to familiarize yourself with the contents of this book because a Haz Mat incident can happen at any time and the resources of this book are practical and real for the service today. The decontamination chapter is rather short for a first responder book. The Hazardous Materials properties chapter is too short considering the fact that first responders ust understand what they might be dealing with. What annoyed me about the book is that it's 100 pages smaller than the previous edition, which was short in its own right. The International Fire Service Training Association has put together a good resource and learning guide for emergency responders, though the information is pretty basic. This is written with North America, mostly USA, in mind. I don't know if this book would apply to those in Europe, Asia and other continents because I'm unfamiliar with the capabilities of those areas. But some chapters can be useful for anybody, anywhere.
