Rating: Summary: This reference book is the best! Review: As you know, there are many tricky and picky questions in a TOEFL test. This reference book is the best preparation book for the kind of questions. I got high score with this book. If people read this book, they can get used to solving questions in a TOEFL test. With the CD-ROM, people can practice diagnostic tests. The tests are similar to a real TOEFL CBT test.
Rating: Summary: Not nearly enough material in this book Review: Overall, Princeton Review's Cracking the TOEFL 2001 is probably not the best book to buy to prepare for the TOEFL exam. Although it is not terribly written and does provide a fair understanding of the different question types on the test, there is simply not enough practice material in this book. Case in point: You get one practice test that takes up the last 150 pages of the book. In addition to that, you get what amounts to one listening test in the listening section, two reading passages in the reading section, and a small selection of grammar exercises in the grammar section. Yes, that is the whole book. And many of the individual exercises take up a full page. In my opinion, this is just not enough practice material to allow students to "crack the TOEFL." Other drawbacks of Cracking the TOEFL 2001 include a somewhat confusing, assumption-leaden breakdown of the grammar section and several overly obtuse reading passages. On a positive note, all of the listening exercises are well-done and the TWE section is simply and clearly presented. Bottom line: You could do worse in TOEFL test-prep book, but you could also do much better. Cracking the TOEFL 2001 is not going to provide enough practice for most students who want to increase their score on the TOEFL.
Rating: Summary: Watch out! Review: You can buy a new, 2002 edition.ISBN:0-375-76209-4
