Review: this book may be very good as a reference for someone who already has a grasp of syntactic theory, but for a student in an introductory course it is confusing, cluttered and too far above my head. it takes no straightforward approach, and instead wastes pages repeating, but not clarifying, what it has already said. it is the least user-friendly textbook i've ever owned.
