Summary: French may be spoken and understood.
Review: The authors of the classroom textbook "Montage" have attempted to give the level two student an understanding of the French language and French philosophy by interaction of the students themselves with characters from the book while building upon a broader base of vocabulary. This they have succeeded in doing, but much action and thought written in this manual is mundane and tends to make a person of any age and nationality wonder why such questions such as why a cold shower versus a hot shower in the morníng is needed if one rises late or early. I remember being told that the north of France seems to write all the classroom textbooks by my French language instructor-a woman who was born and raised in The Basque region. To underline a point, the learning text should be more demonstrative of more naturally occuring events in convesational French today, allthough the applictions section at the end of each chapter are indeed sometimes very well written.
