Summary: Prepping for the CCM exam? Get this book !
Review: I found this book to be invaluable for anyone prepping for the CCM certification exam and for anyone who needs to know the nuts and bolts of case management.
I have been a CCM for five years, and currently work as an educator addressing topics such as managed care, case management, workers' comp, and utilization review. I routinely read books on healthcare trends, including case management. I also hold several certifications (CRRN, CPHQ) and have taught certification review courses.
This book gives a concise, well-referenced overview of case management and includes great descriptions of healthcare terminology. The examples and case studies help the reader put together a comprehensive picture of the case manager's role. Another strength of this book are the sections on clinical issues, such as diabetes, pain management, and spinal cord injury. These types of topics are tested on the CCM exam, and the book clearly explains all the diagnostic testing, treatment, expected outcome and the implications for the case manager.
I also liked the extensive bibliography and web addresses at the end of each chapter, because it allows the reader to easily access more information on the various topics.
I wish I had this book when I was first starting in case management. It is well worth the price.

Summary: Got this book quick and wanted to sent it back quick.....
Review: I have been a nurse for 18 years, I have many certification review books CPAN,CCRN and CEN. This book is the worst book I have ever ordered in my whole nursing career. [This price] for a paper back book with large fonts and a bunch of bibliography fillers to stretch it out. I wanted to send this book back after opening. What a disapointment. What is so sad is that I can't get my money back for this weak excuse for a book. I have always been a supporter of my profession. To sell this book for [the price] is a rip off to any Nurse. Honest value [is much less]I have the aspen disc which is excellent. Please save your money and buy something else that is worthy.
