Summary: Wonderfully Creepy
Review: Emily the Strange is a brief and funny biography of Emily, a rather....odd little girl who doesn't just break rules; she breaks hearts. The illustrations went perfectly with the dark mood of the book. However, the story did not have much plot; it was basically a summary of Emily's life. I believe that to know more about Emily, one has to read the other books in the series. Despite the fact that this picture book is more for adults than for children, it has a quirky, goth-y charm that will definitely be appreciated.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Get lost- while reading this!
Review: Emily the Strange is an essential item, especially if you tend to think 'outside the box'. Those of you who are typical, normal people probably won't like or understand this- just warning you. I'm also warning you- Emily is very addictive. Once you enter her lair, it's hard to leave.

Emily is a 13 year old gal with a very interesting take on life, and a posse of 4 black cats. I enjoy this book because Emily reminds me of myself .... she's very different than everyone else. This book is also very funny. Emily has a bizarre sense of humor.

The illustrations fit the book perfectly. They're done in red, black, and white. I only wish that the book was longer ...... If you liked this, grab 'Emily's Secret Book of Strange', one of the journals/diaries, and a calendar. I just love this book. It's a lot of fun persuing this on a cold, rainy night, while locked up in your bedroom.

Get lost.

Summary: An OK read..
Review: It's an OK little book.. that is, if you haven't been spoiled by the work of say, Jhonen Vasquez and Gorey himself. This series of books (I own this book and Book of the Strange) is pretty disappointing to me.

I usually don't resort to this as a reason, but I really think that this book is a little too immature. It must appeal mostly to 12 and 13 year old teenybopper girls who've "gone GOTH" or something.

So, if that's your demographic, go for it. But I got these books when I was 16, and I am VERY much into comics and 'dark' humor, but Emily doesn't cut it.

Emily isn't "strange". She's mostly your stereotypical "whoah I am sooooo unique" little girl. The book isn't funny and isn't creative. As much as I love red, black, and white, the art is completely lacking in detail and is not moving at all. It's not even creepy.

So in summary, I really don't like Emily. It's trying to fit into a genre while still appealing to young girls, and in my opinion it's failing.

I gave it one star because it looks pretty cute, as a book, and it had maybe 2 illustrations with a little 'hidden' picture that was kind of neat. I still will probably end up selling my copies though.
