Rating: Summary: Information rich! Review: Evans does a great job of giving the amateur an education in collection topics such as censorship, development policies, serials, electronic resources, government documents and many other pressing issues. I had to read this book for a class and, although, I thought the information he provided was valuable, it was not represented in a very endearing way. To say the least, it was dry!
Rating: Summary: A Book to Keep Review: I have the 4th Edition and found it very helpful in getting a feel for what collection development is all about. I plan to keep this book as a guide to use in my role as a media specialist. Valuable information of censorship, book reviews, and writing a collection development policy. Written in an easy to understand, "non-techno" way.
Rating: Summary: Developing Library and Information Center Collections Review: Provides an integrated approach to library collection development, for library students. Discusses practical concerns such as materials producers and distributors, community survey techniques, selection and acquisition, and fiscal management, as well as legal and censorship issues, resource sharing, and specific types of publications. Includes overviews of collection development in the information age and selection process theory. This third edition includes a chapter on electronic formats. Paper edition
