Review: This book has an excellent array of works from latin american authors, but no explanation whatsoever. At the beginning of the chapters there is a small overview of the literary world at the time of the authors, but if you are unfamiliar with latin american history, this overview is not enough. Be prepared for outside research if you want to understand fully why these authors wrote the things they did.
