Summary: Fine book overall, but insults contemporary Norse Heathens
Review: Overall this is a fine book. However, Dr. Lindow is very dismissive of contemporary Norse Heathens, implying in this book that we are not serious about our faith and that we even stoop to "sacrificing" sausages. There are thousands of us out here, and we buy books on the subject of Norse/Germanic Heathenism and Mythology in great quantities. I wish our contemporary faith were more fairly reviewed in this otherwise fine work of scholarship. Patrick L. Buck http://home.earthlink.net/~jordsvin

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Definitive
Review: The scholarship here is solid as Thor's magic hammer; no doubt about that. I probably won't have to buy another book on Norse mythology. Well, maybe a picture book! The writing style is not "scholarly"; it's quite good prose, really. So buy this book and relive the days when gods and frost giants roamed Midgard, Nifelheim, Asgard, Jotunheim...
