Summary: A World of good selections
Review: I have used this book for my advanced Non-Native Readers of English as a Second Language...and it's very good. First the selections are entertaining, but more important, they are examples of strong talent from a diverse group of writers. The Woody Allen story is hilarious and presents quite the challenge as it is filled with cultural references. And therein lies the only stumble...the cultural cache that is required to fully benefit from the selections, even for native English speakers, can be formidable. I enjoy the book and re-read pieces often. The themes are mature and delve into politics, human nature, sexism and love. The glossary is excellent and the questions which follow the readings are generally well thought through; they elicit inferential and critical reading. Of course I recommend this book. Enjoy it.
