Rating: Summary: Sweet book! It has almost everything. Review: First off, I couldn't believe that there were enough people who had Russian girlfriends/boyfriends/spouses or whatever to write a dictionary just for them. Hey, but there is - and I am one of them. The book has everything you need. When I first opened it I was disappointed it was all written in Russian. I was hoping that they could write the sentences with english letters - but that was OK, because they give you a great Russian Alphabet cutout page. I only had it for a few hours and I was already learning how to say phrases like "I pray I never lose you" and write out in complete Russian "I would like to be the lucky person in this world who teaches you what kind of magic a kiss can hold." I must note that before this I had never heard or seen Russian with a hint of understanding. For a guy who only knows German and English, this book does miracles in the tough language of Russian. This is definetly a must if your love is from Russia!
Rating: Summary: Exellent Book if you have Russian Significant Other Review: I have a Belarussian girlfriend. I have used this book to write her a couple of love letters without telling her I had the book, and she was amazed I was able to write such perfect Russian. I have used it to learn some terms of endearment and some other things like telling her she is beautiful. She is fluent in English, but she really enjoys my saying things in Russian even if she has to help me with the pronounciation. She has really gotten a kick out it. I use this book much more than my normal Russian-English dictionary.
Rating: Summary: Phrasebook of Love is an understatement! Review: I have been attempting to learn Russian now for a year and a half. This book has proven to be very helpful both in learning new terms, but also the complexities of Russian Grammar. The premise of this book is to teach someone not just how to write in Russian, but to write it in a manner to convey emotional and passiontate feelings. It takes a little time to get the feel of the book and how to use it, but once you get started, it has many phrases that you can pull out of the entries, and use with others. If you are looking for a book to learn Russian with, this book is more suitable for those who have gotten past the basics of pronounciation and reading the Russian alphabet, an advanced beginner or intermediate Russian student. However, it really brings out the ideas once you start.
Rating: Summary: Trying to woo a Russian lady? Review: I have recently become married to a wonderful young lady from the historic city of Novgorod, Russia. Before meeting her by chance in 1998, I had never given much thought to seeking a foreign-born bride. Once I met her (she was visiting the US), I became very intrigued by her, her culture, and her language. She returned to Russia shortly after we met, amd we remained in contact until we could meet again, at which point we married. She speaks English quite well, but I still wish to speak her language as much as I can. I knew not a lick of Russian before, and most of the books I find on it are quite good at helping me find a hotel, airport, or restaurant, but not at voicing my true feelings. The English-Russian Dictionary-Phrasebook of Love is intended to help the English-speaking person express thoughts and desires to a Russian with limited English exposure. The authors admit that English does not always translate into Russian well, but the points desired will be made. Some of the expressions are not what Russians themselves (or even Americans) would say, but will be easily understood. Grammatical pointers are included, along with guidelines regarding actually courting, marrying, and bringing into the US a Russian bride (or groom). My bride is currently back in Russia visiting friends and family, and I ordered the Phrasebook of Love right after she left. She does not know I have it, and I have been using it a lot in our e-mail correspondence. She is VERY impressed and shows it to her family (well, not quite ALL of it!). Russain women are among some of the most beautiful and intellectual in the world. However, trying to communicate with one who is limited in her English ability can result in an almost "Tarzan-like" level of conversation. The Phrasebook of Love helps remove that element, as well as impress her with one's desire to share a part of her culture. If you have never tried Russian before, you will have to learn a new alphabet. The Phrasebook of Love includes it as well. Key words of desire are easily located, and expressions including them are abundant throughout. I consider this a very good investment for myself (even though I have already "won over" my Russian bride!). I ordered the Phrasebook of Love from Amazon.com on a Thursday; it was in my mailbox on Saturday. Kudos to Amazon.com, and also to the USPS for this quick delivery!
Rating: Summary: A Must Have Book Review: If you are an English speaker with a Russian girlfriend/fiancee/wife this book is definately for you. It's loaded with just about every phrase you could think of dealing with relationships, love, friendship, etc. One does not even need to have a command of Russian to use the book. In addition, there is quite a bit of practical information such as Russian customs, laws, holidays, names, etc. As someone who speaks some Russian I also found the book to be a good grammar and Russian language tutorial. Definately a book worth every penny.
Rating: Summary: I Couldn't Put It Down! Review: Over the past few years, I have explored many Russian phrase books, dictionaries and poetic collections. None of them impressed me like this one! I could not put it down, and was awestruck at the sheer number of useful phrases, from the sweetly innocent to the tastefully erotic. A good lesson in grammar also, and very up-to-date. Simply put, my best purchase in quite some time.
Rating: Summary: Too Bad...so promising....so difficult Review: What a disappoint this book is....BUT....for one reason and one reason only....the russian translation IS IN THE RUSSIAN ALPHABET!!!! Do you believe it????...and not a word about how to pronounce the words.....other than that....this is the BEST book around for the volume and variety of love phrases..unfortunately, it is worthless for me as I wanted to be able to say the words...not spend an hour getting the English alphabet Translation of the written Russian alphbet translation..so...if your honey is right next to you and you can show her the Russian equivilant you are home free...otherwise you'll be out of luck on this one....darn!!!
