Rating: Summary: Valuable advice Review: If you think books about entrepreneurship are mostly boring, self-evident dreck, this book is a welcome exception. Mr. Schaafsma offers an unusually frank, enlightened perspective on the role of patents, trademarks and copyrights (or 'IP') in the marketplace, providing humorous case studies, cogent analyses and practical strategies for maximizing the value of a business through cost-effective intellectual property management. The Entrepreneurs Guide explains why IP is important to businesses, what gives IP its sometimes irrational value, and what to expect when you start messing around with IP in a business. A 'must read' for any entrepreneur or entrepreneur wannabe, I give it to my entrepreneur clients so they can come up to speed on an important and somewhat esoteric area of business and law quickly. 'It's not quite as funny as Far Side cartoons, but it's OK even for guys with small attention spans' said one of my favorite (successful) clients. I consider that high praise.
Rating: Summary: Valuable advice Review: Mr. Schaafsma provides an insightful, straight forward summary of the complex world of intellectual property in a comprehensive and easy-to-understand format. This book examines patents, trademarks and copyrights and provides useful, real-world guidance on the uses and benefits of intellectual property in today's challenging business climate. This book is NOT a boring, laborious dissertation on the minute details of patent, trademark or copyright law. To the contrary, this book helps make sense of the often-intimidating world of intellectual property. It's a valuable resource for any business manager, or entrepreneur interested in investing in, or optimizing the use of, his or her organization's intellectual property.
