Summary: What a Great Read!!!
Review: This is a fun book, especially for anyone with a passing interest (or more) in business and people. It is simply a very entertaining book about a professor who quits Harvard to seek a better paying job. He is hired initially as a market planner and internal consultant, and then takes other assignments at a Jackson, Michigan, manufacturer. That fictional company is headed up by a cast of interesting characters including a 400 lb CEO appropriately named Emil Gross. It is all fictional and we follow his corporate rise and experiences along with those of his suffering wife. He (our hero Prof. Ray Pendleton or simply "the Professor" as he is nicknamed by his co-workers) found the environment to be extremely volatile, hence the title of the book.

I bought this book in paperback at an airport, and it kept me entertained for three flights and about 12 hours of travel. I had finished all but the last 10 pages of the 385 pages in large to medium font by the time the trip had ended. It kept me awake, reading and reading, and laughing out loud. What a great page turner!!! It was like eating some sort of delicious junk food where one cannot stop. Of course I will not tell you the ending.
