Summary: "Written with amazing clarity"
Review: "A Writer's Roadmap," by Wendell Wellman, is a fabulous book dealing partially with the creative thinking necessary to write. It is also loaded with practical usable information (tips, tricks, advice and techniques on writing scripts -- A 'how-to' course in a single book (if you will) -- offering both new and conventional ways of writing for the screen -- clearly illustrating various writing principles with amazing clarity. (Highly Recommended!)

Summary: Excellent Read!
Review: After having read every major screenwriting book out there Wellman's straight forward no nonsense approach clearly identifies key elements that result in inspiration and fresh insights into your writing process or your latest project. This is a book for those that are currently writing... those that have read until their eyes burn about how to write. By culling the complex theoretical bulk weighing down many books, Wellman brings a cerebral athleticism that is reminiscent of the Nike slogan "Just Do It" for writing. By sticking to basics and reminding or introducing the essential moves that are the foundation of an author's craft and skill I felt freed from the convoluted bonds that hinder us and sprinted through the book. The latest project I am working on has benefitted immensely from his organic and slick expertise. I highly recommend this book to anyone that wants to mainline keen insights of our medium.

Summary: A MUST FOR ALL SERIOUS WRITERS!
Review: As a writer I was immediately interested in Mr. Wellman's informative book, "A Writers Roadmap." Although it is geared toward screenwriters, those of us who are involved in any form of writing will find invaluable information packed inside these pages.

Coming from a man with the experience and background of Mr. Wellman only adds to the encouragement that this reviewer would give to other writers to make it a point to read this book. He shares freely not only his triumphs in writing, but also his mistakes. This puts you at ease knowing that no one is perfect and that writing is a learning experience and a road we are all traveling together. He takes you by the hand and gives you example after example of many different aspects to make your screenplay, or in my case, my novel all that it can be.

His words of knowledge will help those who are being held down by the sneaky 'writer's block' that we all experience from time to time. He shows how to draw from our own experiences in life, our friends, our enemies, ourselves and use that to help create the work that is within us. He explains clearly the different levels that any good work should have within it and helps you to achieve that goal.

Mr. Wellman writes in a way that is simple to understand and apply. He does not talk down to you, but encourages you to reach out and become all that you can be as a writer.

I highly recommend that every person who is serious about their writing, be it screenplay writing, novel, short story or whatever area they are pursuing, to grab a copy of this excellent book and keep it by your side.

It is a wealth of information, ideas, suggestions, and encouragement that you will turn to time and time again.
I thank you Mr.Wellman for allowing me to review your book and believe me I will incorporate your suggestions in everything that I write.

A must read for all writers!

Summary: Dennis Woods, writer-producer, reviews "A writer's Roadmap
Review: DennisWoods-Doderer - writer-producer

Wendell Wellman's "A Writers' Roadmap" has de-mystified the secrets that millionaire scribes won't share with us. Fear and political considerations steer the writer away from the character's truth. The book navigates fthrough film and literature classics in way that is therapeutic, even for the non-writer. If Michael Moore trekked this mythic path, he'd have a breakdown, and might even resurrect as a writer.

Summary: Educational & Informative!
Review: I found this book to be unique. Educational and Informative. It was easy to relate to with the writer using terms, phrases and easy to understand instructions. Even someone like myself (a little slow at times) had no problem keeping up and understanding where the author was coming from. A Writer's Roadmap was a huge help to me. And if you are into creative writing then I know you will find this book a great help to you too.

Summary: Oh, help me to find the way.
Review: I have long harbored a desire to try my hand a screenwriting. As if novel writing were not challenging enough for me. An aquaintance recommended I read Wendell Wellman's 'A Writer's Roadmap'. Of course! Any journey into an unknown territory certainly requires the use of a good roadmap.

Not long into the second chapter did I realize that many of the techniques that I was learning from Mr. Wellman would apply to my fiction writing as well. A double bonus, if you will. How could I go wrong? I couldn't.

Mr. Wellman's journey begins with 'Screenwriting from the Trenches.' Sounded kind of like boot camp to this military vet. Here Wendell warns us, when writing, that the middle section will kill us. I know this to be true in my daily dietary battle with my own waistline. So this applies to writing as well?

The journey continues. From 'Who is your Hero' to 'Who's Your Enemy.' Regarding heroes, very important people they are, Mr. Wellman tells us that Hollywood chooses to discuss screenplays in terms of three acts. Act one: hero makes bad decision. Act two: hero makes bad decision (at this point, two wrongs do not make a right), Act three: hero make a good decision. And that is the simple formula.

Thanks Wendell, for this informative and well written roadmap. Could this be an introduction to writing? How about another guide? I'd buy a copy. Norm Harris-author, Fruit of a Poisonous Tree.
