Rating: Summary: Daydreams for the price of a calendar Review: I haven't seen the 2005 calendar (I won't get mine 'til this Christmas), but the calendar description above simply leaves out one of its most important features. Of course, the photos will be lovely. Mr. Mate is a genius at capturing on film the experience of sailing to remote and beautiful coves in beautiful boats. But there are other calendars with pretty pictures - none quite as pretty, perhaps, but quite nice, nevertheless.
What makes this series so compelling is the inclusion of the sailing charts that go with each photograph. Here, for example, is a photo taken in a bay on St. Kitts, and, below it is a chart of the area. Let's see...if the winds are right, tomorrow we could raise anchor and sail for Antigua. Once we're away from shallows around the island, it looks like clear sailing.
For all of you who daydream about those "far-away places with the strange-sounding names", this calendar provides the fuel.
