Review: This is the most well-known trumpet instructional book of all time. I still shake my head in amazement with what Jean B. Arban put down in writing--long tones, scales, double and triple tongueing, etudes, duets, etc. It's all wonderful! If you can play all the characteristic studies at the end, you'll be better than about 85% of the trumpet players on the earth. Unfortunately, and only because of the era in which Arban wrote the book, the book is weak in a couple of areas that the modern trumpeter needs--lip flexibility and high register. I still unequivocally recommend this book. If you are serious about playing the trumpet, you don't need my word on this--you already own this book.
