Summary: An excellent introduction, continued
Review: This volume takes a substantially different approach when compared against Volume 1 of the series, Discourse as Structure and Process. Volume 2 is less oriented toward the linguistic micro-scale and broadens the theoretical concern to the sociological level of analysis. Thus, it might be easier to approach for social science readers without a strong background in formal linguistics, and indeed is sufficiently different from Volume 1 so that one can read it independently. Wodak and Fairclough's chapter on critical discourse analysis (CDA) is one of many strong points in this volume.
