Summary: This book is highly entertaining and informative!
Review: Everything and anything you've ever wanted to know about our oceans. This book is absolutely brimming with facts, myths, mysteries, and tales of the sea.

Summary: Endless Enterteinment
Review: I bought this book on my second trip while commercial fishing on board the crabber/tender "Katrina Em" in Kodiak Island Alaska. The year was 1995, I have carried this book with me wherever I go and have never been bored with it. I have re-read some of the stories over and over again over the years and they have never ceased to run my imagination full of adventure and admiration for some of it's characters. Sometimes I wished to have contribuited to this collection of adventures with one of my own, but I yet have to match any of them.

Summary: If you like "Sea Stories", this is the book for you!
Review: I have had over three copies of this book and read and re-read the stories contained within. It isn't a book that you have to read from front to back, just pick a subject or topic and have at it! Whether its Sea-monsters, Ship wrecks, or Sea life; Ghost stories or True stories, this wonderful book is a wealth of information & lore. A must have for Navy men (and women), sailors or any lover of the sea and the stories and mysteries she holds!

Summary: Fun, but out of date for biology
Review: I hunted for a book exactly like this after reading two titles (Deep Atlantic, Monsters of the Sea) by Richard Ellis. I was looking for something that would, like Ellis, recall me to my sense of wonder. This book can do that to some extent, but it's got a major flaw: a great deal of the information in it is simply out of date. It's especially flawed for marine biology; the supposed senseless ferocity of certain creatures reads like a 1960s children's book you found in the library. I'd recommend this to a person who wants a collection of classic sea yarns and who isn't especially sophisticated as a science reader.

Summary: A must for all on or near the sea. No boat can be w/o TOA.
Review: Mr. Hendrickson recounts events otherwise hard to find in print. This book should be on every sailor's shelf, whether he is a weekend yachtsman or makes his living from the sea. As the title indicates, this is a true almanac; it contains facts about the ocean itself, the atmosphere above the ocean, the terrain below the surface, the creatures it contains, and events and accomplishments man has attained while working and playing in and on her depths. I keep a copy at home, on every vessel I own, in my office, and with my dive gear at all times. I promise this is an informative text you won't want to put down...reads like a thriller from cover to cover. Good reading to you.

Summary: If it's on, in, over or under the oceans it's in this book.
Review: This book is a wonderful gift for someone who is in love with the oceans of the world, the history of man's adventures on them and all the creatures dwelling within them. The Ocean Almanac is the Guinness Book of the oceans. A great book for "installment reading".

Summary: A Must for anyone who loves the sea
Review: This is a compendium of short stories, articles and tid-bits with the ocean as their common theme. Anybody who is interested in the sea in either fact or fiction will love this book. I only wish that they would publish it in a hardback edition as it is a book which has become a personal touchstone, not just to me but to anyone else I ever gave it to.
