Summary: Very useful for ESL student
Review: I bought this 3 or 4 years ago. I like it very much. This book really helps you with your difficulties in English. There are pictures and illustrations which indeed are great helper. Furthermore, the examples are quite adequate and easy to follow. It is professionaly organized. I recommend this to ESL students because I am also a non-native speaker of English.

Summary: Excellent grammar book for non-native speakers
Review: I have used this book for a number of years, while teaching in Germany and while teaching non-native English speakers in the U.S. My students have invariably liked it: it is well organized, nicely formatted and provides good examples. Although it may be too simple for "intermediate" students with languages related to English (e.g. German, French), I have found it to be the correct level for "intermediate" students whose languages are not similar to English(e.g. Korean, Chinese). Nonetheless, it is an excellent, comprehensive review for speakers of European languages as well who are not yet truly fluent. Some grammar books are bogged down in details and simply overwhelming, but this one is so well organized that it makes the lessons manageable.

Summary: very useful suppliment to an Intermediate level ESL text
Review: This book is very useful as a suppliment to texts which incorporate context and practical usage. The explanation page is somewhat cumbersome for the student to handle alone, and some of the vocabulary is difficult for the grammatical concepts presented, but the exercises are great, and with a native speaker teacher to provide answers to the inevitable vocabulary difficulty, it is a great tool. Recently in a Tokyo bookstore, I saw an advanced level edition, which is not yet listed on the amazon search.
