Summary: LOW
Review: I tried to read this book... and guess what? It's no good... from the very beginning where the russian alphabet is not on one page but five pages... so it means going back and forth all the time.... Does this man know how to teach? I think not. i am a teacher. This isn't teaching If it is ... then I guess I am not enough of an idiot....

Summary: Would have been a good resource for me at DLI
Review: I'm a three-time graduate of the same language school as the author, and I'd have been happy to have this as a resource when I was studying at the Defense Language Institute. A little more care by the editor would have been nice, though (the first example that I noticed was "ni pukha, ni pera," spelled as "ne pukha, ne pera," - I assume that was a typo and hope that it wasn't the author's mistake).

As with any language book, this one will be of limited value to students who try to learn without buying some sort of audio. However, for students who have an idea of how the language sounds and can pronounce words they read, this is as good as any other beginning text out there, and a lot less dry. I imagine that quite a few copies will sell at the Presidio of Monterey.
