Summary: This book is a classic of turtle biology.
Review: Encyclopedias of any description cannot be separated from their intended audience. This book, by one of the heroes of Chelonia studies, manages to be comphrehensive, scholarly and entertaining at the same time and can be found on the shelves of amateur enthusiasts, research scientists and blissful pet owners. The text is direct, not overly laden with scientific terminology, and easily accessible. I feel that the illustrations don't alway match the high standard of the writing but the general comment on this book is that it is already a classic and probably the one book which anyone in turtle biology must have.

Summary: A Turtle Enthusiasts Must Have!
Review: If you love turtles, this is a book that should be easily accessible to you at all times. Mine sits right on my desk and I reference it often. I am not a professional but rather a turtle guardian for 28 turtles that I call pets. This book has proven to be an awesome reference for every turtle easily available and those not so easily obtained. Hard core information in an easy to read format. It's out of print so you'll need to buy a used one but it's worth it! I only wish an updated version of the book would be written to include newly available information and photos.
