Rating: Summary: This book is all you need! Review: I've never taken a sociology course, this was the only book I reviewed for this CLEP test. I read this book and took all three practice tests over the course of 2 weeks. I just took the CLEP this morning and passed with 15 points to spare! The trick is to read the correct answers in the back of the book and learn from your mistakes. Be sure to spend some time memorizing which theorist goes with which theory and what the theories ARE. You will need to know how to apply theories to social situations! Buy the book and take the test. Good Luck!
Rating: Summary: This is all you'll need! Review: Like other reviewers here, I used this book only to study for my sociology CLEP test. By taking the practice exams and reading the explanations in the back of the book, I gained all the information I needed to know to pass the test. All the information in this book was revelant to what was on the test. Some practice questions from the book even appeared on the test! If you read the book and study the practice tests and explanations, you will do just fine on the CLEP.
Rating: Summary: Another 3 credits in the bucket Review: Studying this book, along with the cliff notes quick review sociology guide helped me score a 68 (50 is needed to pass with a "C") and complete the test with 30+ minutes to spare. REA books help you pass!
Rating: Summary: My Two Cents Review: The book is very helpful. I studied the book for about a week and passed the Sociology CLEP with 20 points to spare. I would recommend doing some online research about the prominent names listed in the book. Some questions on the test (e.g., Emile Durkeim's 3 types of suicide)are not detailed in the study guide. The practice test were helpful and if you can score high on those, the actual test should be a breeze. All in all, a good resource.
Rating: Summary: Closest CLEP prep to actual exam Review: This book provides the information you'll need to successfully pass the Introductory Sociology CLEP exam. I've never taken a Sociology class, but I only studied the book for 3 days and passed the exam. I do however advise studying longer if you wish to retain more information. Questions on the actual exam vary slightly from the practice questions in the book, however, the overall information supplied in the book will give you ample knowledge to pass the exam. My only other advice would be to put a little extra effort into memorizing the theories of sociology.
Rating: Summary: All you need to pass the CLEP Sociology exam Review: With this book alone you can take and pass the CLEP Intro to Sociology exam. I have never taken a Sociology course. I bought this book, studied it for a couple of weeks and passed the test. The important thing with the REA books is to not only read the study guide part, but also read and re-read the explanations to the answers for the practice exams. In fact, I think the explanations for the practice tests were more useful and comprehensive than the study text itself! Get the book. Study it. You will pass the test.
