Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Oriented Towards British-English
Review: All in all, this is a good book. The explanations are clear and the chapters are short; it's a good introduction to phonetics and phonology. People who are interested in American-English pronunciation should be warned that the book is based on British-English--what the author calls "BBC pronunciation" or "received pronunciation". The phoneme set is somewhat different than that of American-English. Still a worthwhile read.

Summary: Excellent for beginners in phonology
Review: I was introduced to this book as an undergraduate grappling with phonetics for the first time. It was an eye-opener. It really helps to clarify the salient points in a simplistic and easy to understand manner. It was the main reason why I passed my Phonology module. I have since recommended this book to my juniors.
