Rating: Summary: Essential info Review: After you have a grasp of grammar and sentence structure, and you're starting to pick up some extra vocabulary, get this book.
Rating: Summary: A vegy good reference for a beginner. Review: Being unable to buy such a book in Russian I decided to look for a book in English. I found it to be a good reference of the most popular Dutch verbs. I liked the way the authors tell in brief about all the tenses of the Dutch verbs for quick reference. I wish it was "Five Hundred and One Dutch Verbs Fully Conjugated in All the Tenses", so that I do not have to upgrade it to that one when it is published. I wish also it was a hard-cover edition since I take it with me and use quite often. Bearing all that in mind I rated the book with four stars. I would have rated it 4,5 if it was possible.
Rating: Summary: Terrific reference book for conjugated verbs Review: My textbooks for the other languages I have studied always included a conjugation guide to most common irregular verbs at the back. When I discovered that my Dutch textbook lacked this feature, I invested in this book. Although my Dutch-English dictionary includes a brief listing of irregular verb formations in the beginning, the format of this book is significantly easier to understand. I particularly use it when I need to double-check my spelling (a feature for which my dictionary is nearly useless). I'm afraid that I'll have to disagree with the previous reviewer's assertion that public humiliation is the only way to learn (Dutch) spelling. I am a native English speaker and I still use my Webster's Unabridged nearly every day; there's no reason I shouldn't be able to do the same in Dutch.

Rating: Summary: "My What Strong Verbs You have, Mr. Stern!" Review: The 201 Verbs series provides an easy crutch for learning those new conjugations but beware: One becomes too easily addicted to looking up the right spelling of that strong verb without thinking. An over-reliance on this kind of aide prevents one from developing the natural "taalvoel" to predict the correct form that only develops through mistakes and public humiliation in front of smug Dutch speakers. Use it, but look for the irregular patterns and try to predict how that irregular verb conjugates. Helpful as this book is in the beginning, throw it away as soon as you can. Stern includes a quick n' dirty review of grammer but his "Essential Dutch Grammer" is much better for a quick treatment. For a reference grammer for the average English speaking person, Donaldson's grammer is the best. veel succes gewenst!
Rating: Summary: More than you expect... Review: This book is exactly what it says it is- 201 verbs fully conjugated - with a few extras. It is a very good reference point, and is very helpful to the beginning student when learning to conjugate verbs. This book can be used as a reference point on how verbs are conjuated in the different tenses, and can be used as well to check your work. Each verb is given it's own page, with the Present, Past, Future, Conditional, Present Perfect, Past Perfect, Future Perfect, and Conditional Perfect tenses. Some verbs also have information on their Indictive Passive tense. Additionally, this book includes a glossary of 1500 additional verbs (with those listed in the main part of the book bold-faced), a small section (24 pages) on basic grammer related to verb use, information on verb-classes (weak, strong, irregular) in Dutch and a verb index arranged alphabetically by the English translation. Highly recommended!
Rating: Summary: An outstanding reference Review: This is an excellent concise guide to common Dutch verbs. Clear, logical graphic layout makes the conjugations easy to understand, and the introduction contains brief explanations of basic Dutch grammar as well. Highly recommended.
