Summary: A Not So Detailed Guide...
Review: I have read this book from cover to cover, and while it does give a brief explanation of quite a few things vampire related, it is far from complete. This is a bore to read through although it is a somewhat handy vampire reference guide. If you are looking for minimal detail This would be the guide for you.

If you are looking for something more in depth, I would suggest the Vampire Book. It has many more entries and although it is quite thick, is very enjoyable to read. Not to mention it has more knowledge about vampires than you could ever ask for [in one place].

Summary: A Good Place To Start.
Review: "The Vampire Encyclopedia" by Matthew Bunson is a good place to start with if you know little to nothing on vampires. I have been researching for over four years on vampires, so I really didn't find anything in here that I didn't all ready know.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Blood Quickie
Review: A good overall resource for vampire information, The Vampire Encyclopedia has some good tidbits that are hard to come by anywhere else. However, Bunson does not cite any specific sources for his facts, which make them hard to confirm and even harder to research more on the subject. The Vampire Encyclopedia is best used as a bedside reference rather than a source or starting point for research.

Summary: chalk full of vamp facts (wow does that sound corny)
Review: chalk full of vamp facts (wow does that sound corny), but it's true! this is a great book for brushing up on your vampfact knowledge. it has everything from vampire film/literature/play lists to descriptions of vampire 'species' around the world. even things with the smallest association to the vampire is listed here (ie. poppy seeds, bloody poppy seeds! who knew they were used as a form of vampire prevention). very thorough and worth buying if you're a vampire buff.

Summary: Want a vampire 101 guide; then get this!
Review: Do you have deepseated curiosity about vampires?;well, then this book in question, i.e.,The Vampire Encyclopedia by Matthew Bunson, is the perfect guide and will help you find out about many different aspects of the vampire, e.g., the nature of female vampires and all the vampire movies that have been made up to the date of the publication of this book in question. The appendix is very well developed and the entries are quite easy to read and therefore I would reccomend it to anyone interested in either the undead or the peculiar creature known as the vampire.

Summary: The second best basic reference book on Vampires
Review: I do not really have any major complaints about "The Vampire Encyclopedia," I just think "The Vampire Book" is a better reference work on the undead. There are large areas of overlap, obviously, but if you have room on your shelf for more than one such book, by all means, this is a strong second choice. Actually, there is much more of a gap from this book to the rest of what's out there than there is from this to Melton's tome.

Summary: the handbook for the newbies
Review: if you are new to the world of vampyrism and vampyres, this is the perfect book for you. it is sleek and thin, but it has enough information compressed in it to keep you awake. this book is the gateway that will lead you to search for more vampiric texts. from this book, you can search as if it were a database of the most basic information. it's nothing too intense, you can't go vampire hunting with it, but it will make you a better deciple and apprentice.

Summary: Great stuff!
Review: This book comes second only to one on my shelf (and it would be unfair to mention the title here) It is thorough, informative and well researched. Everything the vampire fan - or budding hunter - could ever want to know about those fanged fiends.
