Summary: Product is far superior to all the others offered out there
Review: ...and at a price I can afford. The intuitive structure and the authenticity of the interviews make me feel like I am with friends I just met traveling. It moves at the right pace -- from beginner to more advanced levels so that the confidence builds quickly and before you know it, you're speaking French with confidence. I'm traveling to France this summer and can't wait to practice. I definitely recommend it.

Summary: She Got French!
Review: I heard about his product from a friend who has spent years and thousands of dollars learning French. She travels to France often and reports that this is the first time that she was actually able to carry on conversations in French with French people one hundred percent of the time. Why did she suddenly get French? She showed me the Smart French CD

I gave it a listen, and zut alors, it was really good! I have spoken French for many years and have tried to share it with my friends. If I had this system when I first started learning I'm sure I would have mastered the language much more quickly. I have my own copy of Smart French for reference, and the next time a friend asks me about learning French, I'll recommend this CD with total confidence. Smart French. Formidable!

Summary: I love working with this program!
Review: I thought I would never find a program that was actually exciting. I've tried many other brands and I was bored. I enjoy studying now. It has real French conversations as opposed to actors playing roles who sound too rehersed. The conversations are also written down and you can see and practice the difference between what is on the paper and what you hear! They make you understand what you hear by using colors, which is very convenient. The method, which makes you repeat the dialog, has already improved my ability to understand and speak French, in no time. It's clear and efficient. I love it!

Summary: EXCELLENT!!!
Review: I'm not sure about the individual who said "...if you haven't 'learnt' the language yet..." this is perfect for the beginner because it sets up the learning pattern of children: they learn by hearing and doing, not by reading and structural lecture. Children learn language faster and more comprehensively than any age group. This method utilizes that mechanism. I have three other French language courses, and I've learned more from this one than I have the others put together. The key has been the retention, developed by natural conversational style and repetition. There IS repetition, but not laborious nor boring. By the time you've completed the first cd, and you begin the next, you have a foundation to future understanding of how the locals speak. You recognize phrases and pronunciation differences between reading and conversation. I'm on my way to the next level, and on my way to Africa! Thank you! Regards, Cynthia

Summary: This product has helped my conversations
Review: Once I finished school I forgot all my French for I couldnt remember it from learning it through memorization. However, Smartfrench has helped me to speak it and I think it's fun and exciting. I have tried other products but they were just as boring as high school so I didnt stick with them. I think anybody learning to conversate in French and needs help should use this software.

Summary: A bit limited
Review: This is a CD-ROM and yet the only thing that would make different from a tape is that the final interviews are in video format, which are very bad produced. The method is very simple, a bunch of dialogues that you have to listen and repeat several times, in order to get how french people speak, with almost no lessons on vocabulary. And no lessons on Grammar. Since that is all there is to the method, I find it quite repetetive.

There are no excersizes, no tests, nothing other than listen and repeat.

This CD-ROM might be useful if you have already learnt French formally a while ago, and you want to freshen up your skills. But if you don't know the language pretty well, this will be pretty hard.

Summary: Finally something "smart" for the "dummies!"
Review: This is the first learning program that made me laugh! Thanks to SmartFrench for creating such a good product. The method is much like that by which kids learn. It introduces the patterns of the spoken language, not just grammar and vocabulary; so it's possible, in short order, to begin constructing sentences that sound French. It's a real confidence-builder. And it's fun. The speakers have personalities that keep the learner engaged. There's nothing boring about SmartFrench.

Summary: Tried them all -- FINALLY something that works
Review: With an impending vacation to Paris, I wanted to become familiar with the French language, having never studied it before. I've read and listened to nearly every major French language program out there, including Barron's, Berlitz, Michel Thomas, Living Language French, Teach Yourself French and Instant Immersion. Smart French is by far the best, both in value and in what it teaches. I couldn't understand why after studying these other methods, when I watched a French film, I could understand little to nothing of what was being said. After purchasing Smart French and working each of the interactive lessons, I finally get it. What is taught in the textbooks is not the way the French actually speak. They contract so much that the written French is quite different from the spoken French!

A child learns a language first by hearing it spoken and mimicking the sounds, then by attaching meaning to the words. This is what Smart French does. It teaches you to hear first, repeat the sounds that you hear and translate later. First you learn to hear, then speak and finally to understand. All the other methods teach basically the same way and method, while Smart French is very different. I wholeheartedly recommend Smart French!!!
